"Cannot read Disk" Post here if ur having problems!
a freind of mine is having alot of problem with his 2nd copy of halo 3. ( he took the first one back and found out thenew one did the same thing ) he gets "Cannnot Read Disk" when trying to load maps. what could be the problem here?

Things they have tried .
1. Ruled out dirty and unreadable disks - people including myself have tried a number of Halo 3 disks and had the problem with all of them .Others have tried ther "unreadable"disks on other 360's and they worked fine. (works on my new system)
2.Dumped memory and tested hard drives -People have tried clearing ther cache also a format for some has worked and for others it didnt help at all .Some people found removing/replacing HDD helped also for others it didnt help its still all worth a shot .
3.We have tried other games to test dvd drives -Most people have no problem playing anything else while ther are a few that cant play them anymore (since the problem with halo 3 )and that number seems to be rising .
FACTS
Its happend with every version of the game (standard limited and legendary editions) as well as all versions of xbox 360 "one person even commented that they had only owned ther xbox 360 elite 4 weeks" .
The problem is on more then one forum and has been on more then one web article "news sites"
We have had one response from a moderator who warned us about bumping and confirmed we wont get any help from bungie or microsoft through posting on this thread (this is a community forum not tech support).

I would like to know this too, if it's something possibly patchable i hope they can, otherwise they should replace the disks of those who can't finish the fight. because my 360 still works everything else. plus in halo 3, all the multi stuff loads, but once i get to the storm, it becomes unreadable, its taken me there once or twice, but its always disk unreadable.

happens to me too.. Me and my brother Shoot that damned brute with the hammer before he *freezes* "Aww crap are you kidding me?" Cannot Read Disk I cant believe that.. im going to exchange it tomarrow.. but if your friend's Second copy didnt work then maybe its a futile effort..

I'm on my third copy right now, and the it's frozen in the exact same place for all three versions. I'm thinking it might be my Xbox (of which is 9 days old...) First one broke in 9 months and second broke in 9 days (potentially).. Wonder if my next one will last for 9 seconds.

Same issue. F.e.a.r works, gears works (with 2 ring scratches around the entire disc), all my 360 discs work again. Halo 2 works fine, it has a year of abuse. Put halo 3 (perfect surface) in: loads game, starts to join, then says that the disc is too dirty to read. really frustrating.. just want to play the damn game.

I'm on my 3rd copy of Halo 3 - after the 2nd Limited copy was found to be scratched I upgraded to Legendary hoping the REAL DVD CASE you get when you by the "PLASTIC EDITION" (PE) would yield a clean disk - and it did - the surface is perfect. But... I'm still getting read error intermittently at various points in Solo or Campaign - usually when I reboot I can get by the read error and continue on. This is happening on a spanking new 360 Elite - 4 days old. So the read error are not necessarily always related to a scratch... Might be just really poor reproduction. I wonder if a DVD utility would tell us what rate they burned it at... Maybe they cooked them too quickly.

SAME PROBLEM. Been through 2 disks and a HD format. Ugh!! I wanted to finish off the 2nd scarab too >_< (I have the regular, not limited. This problem is unrelated) [Edited on 09.26.2007 12:24 AM PDT]

I'm going to test the same potentially faulty disc (the third time) on another box tomorrow to see if the problem lies with the Xbox, or the disc. Would kinda suck for someone to spend $300 or more, or wait for repairs just for the same error.

I'm having the exact same problem my 360 can still play bioshock and all my other games fine but I cant get past the storm in halo 3 without it saying unable to read disc I returned the disc twice because I thought it was the disc but it still did the same thing what gets me mad is that bungie and microsoft are'nt admitting this problem and a least saying we know of the problem and we are trying to fix it I mean thats all I need I just want to know they are working on a solution.

anyway to tell them about it? Im gonna see if I can skip the storm by doing the next level coop with friends, if they work then its just that one point for some reason.

It just seems that this problem is being overlooked by everyone I just want to know that bungie is aware of it ......tell me if skipping the level works

Same problem as all of you & at the same spot. I was able to get a few play throughs done then an error at the start of the map every time. Pulled my HDD & it played fine, with the exception of almost no chatter from grunts, brutes, or allies. I just tried Initial Setup in the system menu & surprise, it worked. Maybe give it a shot & see if you fare well. Perhaps a work around until a patch or whatever. Good luck. Never mind. Worked for "the Storm" & gave me the error on the next map. Same problem here. All of Halo 3 works perferct, except 2 campaign maps. My games stops (disk is unreadable) at the same point everytime, during the end of Floodgate and middle of Cortana map. I'm on my 2nd copy. So I did some extensive testing on Floodgate. When I ran Floodgate on easy and normal various times, I was able to finish the map. Heroic and legendary, no such luck. What does difficultly have to do with "disk unreadable" issue? My 360 is in mint condition and plays everygame just fine. I don't see the reasoning in buying a new 360 to adhere to a game. Bungie better find a solution, and quick.

( mine works fine, but i feel ur pain )

Having the Same problem I hope someone is looking at this topic and trying to fix it. I cant get passed the first cut scene in campaign and when I load certain maps like Snowbound or Last Resort it says disc unreadable

It's your Xbawkses. I don't care if they read other disks, if they play other games, etc. Chances are, Halo 3 is as big as 3 other games, and is just simply more [i]pure awesome[/i] than your decaying disk drive can handle. Replace your Xbawkses.

I just hope that bungie is reading the forums and try to fix it I cant get passed the storm level without getting the error obviously quite a few of us are having this issue I read the 360 forum and people are having the problem there too.
