Here is a nifty way to speed up firefox. It will only work on websites that support pipelining. Except for item 5 which just reduces the delay in showing a website. Item 5 might not work so well on slower computers.
1. Type "about:config" in the address field.
2. Set the value of network.http.pipelining to "true".
3. Set the value of network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to "100".
4. Set the value of network.http.proxy.pipelining to "true"
5. Create a new integer value "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" set it to "0"
6. Shut down browser and relaunch browser
PS To set a new value just right click and go to new.
I'm sure most hardcore Firefox users already know about this but I just found it yesterday.
