Halo 2 Delta Halo Ruins

I was replaying Delta Halo and Regret again and I heard some dialogue I normally didn't hear on the Gondola: "You know what Chief? I think the Forerunners built these new structures around the old ones to protect them, remember them,,,(something)" Now, we are all aware of the ruins quite possibly being built by ancient humanity, but I wanted to start this discussion again. What do you think they are? [Edited on 10.05.2012 4:31 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Rocketman287 Just curious (I saw a Human-Forerunner war section on Halo Wiki), how exactly did Humanity even manage to wage a war against the Forerunners? Wasn't that in Prehistoric times when our daily lives consisted of falling off our dinosaurs and throwing rocks?
Long before humanity was an advanced space faring species. The war with the Forerunners (which was started as a result of Forerunners perceiving humanity as invading their territory when in reality humanity was being pushed back into that space by the Flood) ended in defeat with the Forerunners "devolving" humanity. One could say that humanity got kicked back into the stone age more or less.
