Destiny: What do you want?

I've seen some topics about what Destiny could be. Speculation and theorys about Bungie's next title. I've heard it's probably going to be an FPS/MMO on the Xbox 360/720, and that sounds awesome! A console MMO is something I've wanted for a while, and it's a risky move, that's why I think Bungie is doing it. But what I havn't really seen people talk about is what would you want to see from Destiny? Imagine you're a developer at Bungie, what do you want in you're new universe? Anything from the gameplay, to the story, to the easter eggs. As for me, if it is an MMO, I hope it's not focused on leveling, I want a really gripping story that's told in the most epic way possible. And forces you to team up with your freinds in an all-or-nothing struggle for survival. As for the story itself, I think it should really be up to the player. There should be an awesome main story, but depending on how you act influences everything. And since it's an MMO, think of what Clan battles will be like! They'll be like there own little story themselves, pick a side. Who do you allign youself with? Do you make your own army of gamers? Or do you just simply fly solo and watch all of the carnage? As for the gameplay, I hope you can really customize your character. Not just visually, but maybe even have the ability to create your own personal story for them. Something that would effect your gameplay, and future events. Plus, when you encounter a problem, be it an enemy, or a puzzle, I think you should have to use your own skills to solve it. Not some bunch of stats. What about you? -Shadow

 • Yeah. I keep going back to Joseph Staten's comments in the last Bungie vidoedoc:
We feel responsible for not just telling an isolated story but for building a universe that at some point is going to become more of the fans' than ours. It's going to take a life of its own.
Other than Halo, I've never really experienced console game that's done that. Before I owned an Xbox, I played PC games, it was easy to find ones that did this because you could mod. I can't tell you how many hours I spent playng Star Wars: Jedi Knight Outcast. There was something for everyone, even players that would have games where they'd just do virtual role-playing. (They'd always get so mad when you would join the game and start shooting everyone.) It's kind of funny when you think about it but a big part of that for me in Halo 2 was based around exploiting glitches. You could superbounce glitch out of maps, explore, and it was awesome. However, I digress. My point is, if Bungie is looking to bring forth a universe on the scale of which they speak and believe that players will eventually give it a life of its own, then in some form or fashion, they have to give us some pretty hefty tools to dynamically impact our surroundings. Logically, it makes the most sense to me that they build upon what they know works, Forge, and take it to the next level. Now I don't know if I necessarily want to build my world's infrasturcter block-by-block. I've never tinkered in Forge too much, but the idea has me intrigued. Another reason I feel it's going in this direction though is the comment another Bungie employee made that the game will have something for everyone. Bungie had three main constiuencies in Halo that within themselves have many different subcultures and are quite different from each other, although there was plenty of crossover as well. You had the FPS gamers, the creative Forge World people, and you had the machinima film-makers. Bungie knows this and even though they are going in a new direction, I am sure they will include elements that appeal to each of these groups and, at the same time create newer constituencies as well. (Perhaps for players interested in stategic planning for large-scale combat.) I think another interesting element we have not discussed yet is the economic system. I mean we know that Bungie hired someone along those lines, although we do not know whether it was specifically for Destiny. But I'd be willing to put money on they are working on Destiny. I mean I've never played Eve, but it sounds as if you nearly have to have a degree in accounting to play (some sarcasm). So, not sure if I want it that complex or open, but I think having a legitimate economic system with the game will be cool and keep player interested and motivated. CAVEAT: As long as they don't try to turn it into a money making scheme for buying XBL points. [Edited on 10.07.2012 2:45 PM PDT]
