Broken XBOX. Get it fixed or buy a new one?

I have a broken XBOX. It just stopped working one day. Warranty had expired. I do not know anywhere I can get it fixed. Are there stores that fix XBOX's or should I just buy a new one?

 • Sell your old one for (get what ever you can) and buy a new one. Gettin it fixed will probobly cost more than buying one.

 • This exact predicament happened to me in August, I didnt play my Xbox for a week, and then it just didnt work, its definately the power supply that failed, as thats what they said happened to mine. If you have alot of stuff you want on your Xbox then you may want to consider repairing, but if you dont really care about whats on it (and dont say you halo account, because you can easily beat it again in a couple days) then you should just go buy a new one. I had alot of stuff on mine, so I got it repared. It cost 149$ CDN plus 12$ for shipping, they fixed it, but it took 2 weeks, and they switched my superior Samsung Drive to a far inferior Thomson drive, which I'm still pissed about. So for like 30 or 40 dollars more you can just get a new one, with another controller and 2 more games. (If you get the bundle) If not you can just get a new Xbox for like 149$ CDN anyways.

 • Sounds like your power supply in your Xbox fried. The same thing happened to me. I got a replacement part off of Ebay.

 • Thanks everyone. I think I will first call XBOX hardware help and see what happens. About the refurbished ones, I am not comfortable with those, I would rather buy a new one.

 • My Xbox broke twice. The second time I brought it over to my friend's for "unofficial" service, and it's worked fine ever since. Micro$oft isn't getting my money for repairs, no matter how much of an unreliable piece of space junk their console is.

 • Look this is what I would do, my xbox was screwing up awhile ago, (I got one at launch) it wouldnt read discs and things like that so I sent it to microsoft to be fixed (and my warranty had expired also) it took a couple of weeks to get back home but it ran perfect and it saved me alot of money. you could send it in and get it back in time to pick yourself up a copy of Halo 2, but if you cant keep yourself away from a xbox for that long you should get a refurbished (redone used system) for much cheaper that a brand new one.

 • Nice Sunday morning in the east coast. Birds singing. Sun shining on your face. A gentle wind moving the leaves. And my XBOX is broken and in its box. The last one simply wipes out all the good ones.

 • It is surprising the mental withdraw I go to if I don't play Halo at least 3 out of 7 days. I can't imagine my XBox breaking, since it is the only thing that keeps me from pulling my hair out from boredom when there is nothing to do. Hope you get it fixed soon.

 • There's a number on the back of you Xbox box. When you call there, they give you an address to send your Xbox to, than they'll clean it, fix the problem, and other stuff you wouldn't even think of. When you get it back, it's like its brand new, Trust me.

 • Neeed......to......play.......Halo.... It is 12:42 here. I have to get some sleep. I will check the replies tomorrow (if anyone replies after this). Well, the moment I sell my car, I can buy a new XBOX. Maybe I can also get the 2 year extended warranty although I wonder what they are covering. My XBOX broke after 2 years and I read somewhere else that other people mentioning about their XBOX's failing after 2 years. Maybe they are not meant to survive for more than 2 years. I had really looked after mine but did not really bothered about the dust that went inside.

 •
Posted by: Sketch_ If the warranty is gone I would open it up and see if I could figure it out. I do not advise you to do that unless you know what you are doing however. First I would try a different outlet and then a differnt power cord, most electronics now a day come with a cable with an end on it identical to the xbox cable, Sony product almost always have one. If that doesn't work I would open it up and check for a fuse in the box, but don't shock yourself. Oh does the light on the front come on at all? Or you just get nothing when you hit the power?
I get nothing when I press the power button. I opened it up but did not see anything wrong although I do not know where to look for a fuse! I did not get shocked, yet! Tried different power cables--> nothing.
