Halo 3 & NXE

Here's what I'm wondering though. If Bungie were to make a patch, I don't think it would be too difficult. I'm almost certain that the NXE provides a boolean value to tell whether the game is on a disk, or the hard drive. So I'm thinking just a if/else statement to decide whether or not to cache the maps. I don't really know how much code that would entail (because I don't work for Bungie), but I'm just saying it seems simple in theory.
