I was wandering what you guys thought about the name Halo, and how they got it.
-
They could have picked random names out of a hat. But a halo is actually a ring that is encircling the sun every now and then. Well, from our view it is encircling the sun. I have noticed it before. Its pretty cool. Maybe they came up with the idea of something other than a planet because planets are old hat.

Probably a while. I mean, Halo kind of sounds like a game that is angelic and stupid. But it kicks ass! And the name rocks now! And you do have an insane number of posts. [Edited on 4/14/2004 3:22:22 PM]

Just read what Shadowsnipe said, religious reasons of course. Covenant and the Forerunners are uber religious.. Besides, it's a ring shape, thus, a Halo... end o' story.
-
I think you just post things little one word comments so YOU can get more posts and then blame it on other people. But anyways, Did your mom or dad just say, Hey, i wanna' call him John, or Hey, I'm going to name her Jill, I mean Halo sounds like a hard thought out name, and where did they get the name? I mean i can understand a Halo is also known as a ring, but how long do you all think it took them to name it Halo?
-
Some one at Bungie was probably playing with their ring and looking at the inside of the ring and said, Hey, wouldn't it be cool if there was like a planet's surface on the inside of a ring?. And the rest, as they say, is history. Oh, and the name Halo has to do with religious stuff and the ring is a religious icon to the Covenant.

Thank you rip, I don't do threads to get more posts...I start them to get input from other people, and if you disagree with me so be it. But anyways, exactly what i meant when i asked the question Rip, I mean how did they come up with the idea to have a mechanical ring orbiting a planet?? That takes some huge imagination!

I hardly consider this a dumb question. A name can mean a lot. Did you make your dumb comment just to piss us off?
-
did you use this dumb question just to get more posts

because.. ..it's more mysterious "ooooooooOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo" 'nuff said. BTW: Bungie made this awesome story and stuff that happens for a reason, and that reason.. i'm guessing.. is to have a game with an awesome story? :O. So, I'm glad it's a ring instead of a planet, because it adds to the originality in the once dull sci-fi genre. EDIT: "It isnt around the planet, its between threshold and its moon " It counts as being AROUND the planet since it is technically orbiting around it? is it not? [Edited on 4/14/2004 3:12:10 PM]

It isnt around the planet, its between threshold and its moon

Because you can't see the other side of a planet from the surface. In other words, it's been done before. Bungie is original.
-
No kidding...I'm asking why bundie made Halo a ring instead of a planet and why they named it Halo, and don't give me "because a ring is a Halo" I mean come on people when they made the name they didnt just say, hey look up the defenition for Ring. [Edited on 4/14/2004 3:11:24 PM]

Halo is the ring around the planet not the planet itself
-
Well then why did they make halo a ring instead of a planet? [Edited on 4/14/2004 3:09:58 PM]

its a ring.... and a Halo is a ring...
