The Halo engine and Destiny.

We know that Bungie could not retain any rights to Halo pretty much, but what about the engine itself? It's not like some other engines that can be liscensed to use in games, it's exclusive to Halo. But is there a special case for Bungie? Or did they have to make an entirely new engine from scratch? I think the Halo engine would be fairly good. I'm not sure how it'd hold up to MMO esque features, but as for looks, gameplay, and efficiency it's great.

Can't wait for more info though.
As I said earlier, building an engine from scratch is a LOT of work and a TON of resources. If we saw a ton of job openings for a position which required you to have worked on Engines, that would be an indication that they were branching off and making their own complete engine. With the employees they have, it's way more cost effective and feasible to optimize and future-proof their current engine.
Planetside 2/SOE's Forgelight Engine was built in just over two and a half years, game released. Bungie has been working on this project for (at least) 2-3 years. They're also not done nor releasing information on the game yet, meaning it's still being developed. I'd say a new engine is entirely within the realm of possibility. [Edited on 12.03.2012 9:08 AM PST]
