I need some help...

So for some reason, when I try to log in to Windows Live using my XBL account, it gives me an error. When I check the network settings, it says that my internet ip address is not signed in, my system link address is not active, and my UPnP is not signed in. I'm a derp when it comes to computers, and I ultimately have no idea what I'm even doing. I tried to look for help on xbox.com, but I ended up switching my priority from Ethernet to Wi-Fi, or something... I don't even know if that was necessary... It did nothing. I have heard talks of opening specific ports, but what would that do with my ip address? Keep in mind that... Also, I'm using Windows 8 on a Pavilion g6, so the way this computer accesses menus is completely new to me. This is my first laptop. My computer is horrible, as it runs on XP and it is so terribly slow I can hardly run CE on it. Thus, I am using this so go easy on my nooby approach to computers. I'm under the obvious impression that this forum is dead, but I'm not going to the Flood about this. If anyone helps me, thank you for your time. [Edited on 11.27.2012 8:28 PM PST]

If Halo 2 is saying you DON'T have an internet connection (an error i used to have), it could well be because of Xfire. Whenever i had Xfire running, Halo 2 would refuse to sign into LIVE and claimed i had no network connection. Note that this may not be the case for all users as i'm sure people still use Xfire with Halo 2 but from past experience, that was my issue with it however, Xfire may have patched this since or released another patch that broke it again etc. YOU MUST END THE PROCESS for this to work. Xfire can't be minimised etc, it must not be running at all. Secondly, firewalls. Disable your firewalls for the time that you're playing the game, then re-start them afterwards. That may be blocking it and is common with a few games such as BF3 Co-op too. And heck, for a thirdly, try updating the GFWL client separately. That sometimes fixes GFWL errors. Try these and hopefully it will fix it for you. If not then we'll think of something else.
