An alternative that doesn't involve executing burglars. [/quote] In my opinion, the burglars knew what risks they were taking by breaking the law. They're breaking into someone's house to steal what doesn't belong to them. They could potentially hurt or kill the owner, and they're definitely traumatizing them. Once they cross that line and they've broken in, they have forfeited their lives and they accept any and all consequences, whether that be prison or death.
