Destiny 2

I know, I know, we dont even have Destiny yet, but I was trying to find some memorable threads from back in the old days and found this post which, obviously, is a hilarious mockery of all the Halo 2 haters that existed for a while in late '04 and '05. Whenever we deal with sequels, be they in trilogy form or the Activision contract revealed 'quadlogy' for destiny, a couple things always happen. A) We compare the subsequent games to the previous ones, and vice versa, in every detail. B) We argue about which one is our favorite / which one is the best While this wont be totally eradicated with Destiny, I do think that the conversation will be very different with the Destinys than with the Halos. With the release of Halo: CE, no one knew just how huge the Halo series woule be, and just how much fan expectation would end up being attached to the following instalments of the franchise. But now, Bungie has already been through that once, and Bungie has now built up a significant fan base not only on Bungie.net, but with game console owners who never joined this site but will buy the game made by the creators of Weekend Warrior...oops...I mean Halo. Bungie knows exactly what craziness mega-success can get them into. Even more importantly, Bungie already knows exactly how many games and DLCs they have to chart the meta-narrative over. That means that, when they started creating Destiny, they already knew the entire story (or I would hope at least had an idea) of the plot of all the Destiny games, and which segments would be covered in each game. So, I think, the four games of Destiny will hold together very well, even more so than the Halo series did and more so than most game series have. Bungie has done it before. Bungie knows how many games they are making in advance. And, Bungie isn't being forced by Microsoft into releasing the first game earlier than they wanted to, so they wont have to start the series off with a game that was forced to creatively cut corners. tl;dr: Because Bungie is more experienced in making games, knows how many Destiny games they are making, and isnt having to rush the initial game, the Destiny games should hold together as a series exceptionally well. Now, someone turn this into a discussion so I dont feel like this wall of text was wasted.

I feel that Reach suffered greatly because Bungie shot themselves in the foot ten years previously when Eric Nylund released a book about a battle which wouldn't translate well into a videogame. With better planning, they would not need to have conflicting desires of obeying 10 year old canon and creating a good campaign, and that's why I have high hopes for Destiny's story.
I hadn't even thought about that conflict with reach. Granted, Reach was released in the year I didnt have access to an xbox or my halo buddies. By the time I played it, I wasnt invested as much in the Halo franchise and just wanted a fun Bungie campaign with good co-op mechanics, so I was happy. I was thinking more of Halo: CE, with its levels that used already created sections of previous levels, but going backwards or upsiede down, so they didnt have to spend more time creating new areas.
