Dark Souls 2 Sequel or Prequel?

A lot of people are saying that dark souls 2 is a prequel. They believe this because they think that the city in the trailer is Anor Londo, and the character you play as is Solaire. I personally think this is rubbish and that you will be playing during the dark age, but there is plenty of evidence supporting both arguments. So now I ask you flood. What would you prefer? A sequel or a prequel? For those who have not heard of dark souls 2 yet.

 •
Posted by: Lord Gwyn Why would From Soft suddenly change the formula so that you're no longer your own character. Its just not going to happen. We aren't going to be Solaire, and we aren't going to be a young Gwyn. We're not going to be a young Gwyn because the trailer has already said that we are undead, and Gwyn is a God. My guess? Its a sequel, the Age of Dark is rapidly approaching (this was going to happen no matter what ending you whose at the end of Dark Souls). Because the flames are fading the Dragon's are returning, and the woman in the trailer is probably Velka. Thats where my speculation ends.
It is most likely a sequal. I agree. But the woman in the trailer is not velka. Velka has black hair she does not. Also, if you look at This Screenshot, you will see what I believe is a ruined firelink shrine. Look at the top left. You will see what apears to be the shrine, and the bridge that has that guy from xena behind it. However, if it is a prequel, then it will be you playing as gwyn. The guy narating it is Flann who has made gwyn undead in order to test him before making him a full god.

It looks exactly the same.

 •
Posted by: LeSieg If anyone hasn't already, go search EpicNameBro on Youtube. He is easily one of the most absorbing and informative Dark Souls community members out there right now. He has a great analysis of the trailer. Personally, I would love a sequel, as prequels usually suffer from being unexciting (because we know what inevitably happens), but with Dark Souls? There's so much ambiguity and room for just absolutely anything to happen. Plus with the fact that time really just does whatever it feels like in Lordran means there's even more experimentation. I really like the idea of a near-prequel/concurrent story. As if this Undead were heading to Lordran around the same time the Chosen Undead is doing his/her thing. I would love to see more of the Dark Souls world outside Lordran, whilst simultaneously being able to see Lordran before it was completely inhospitable. Decaying is much more dramatic than the decayed. I also have faith that From Software will exceed whatever I can come up with.
I actually like that. Like you star out far away, and as you get closer, you see lordran slowly decaying. The only problem I have with this it that it seems like as you go foreward, you would be leaving the other areas behind and what I always liked about dark souls, is that it is one connected area, and you will keep returning to old places.

 • Also, if you look at the dragon in the trailer, I have a feeling that it is the same dragon, as that rotting corpse in the beginning, but resurrected. If you look closely, you will see that there are two empty eye sockets on the side of its head, and then a third eye that seems to be stitched onto the front. Maybe after the dark lord era began, the dragon covenant succeeded in becoming dragons, and then began resurrecting some of the old ones from the age of ancients.
