I just wrote a police officer a ticket
So today I saw a police officer parked in a yellow "no parking zone" But he wasn't responding to an emergency, He was at a 7-11 and he walked out with a big gulp.
He was abusing his status as a police officer. And this is how I am about to knock him down a level for it.
I live in Oregon. In Oregon it is a little known fact that you don't have to be a police officer, or a parking attendant to write someone a parking ticket. [url=http://www.leg.state.or.us/ors/153.html]See ORS 153.058[/url]
Now back to the story. as the officer was coming out as soon as I saw that he was parked illegally I took a picture of him ( as he was coming out holding his big gulp, and of his car parked illegally. AND of him getting into his car.
This is all of the evidence that I need to issue him a citation.
I went on down to the police station and initiated the proceedings of filing the citation. Filled out his ticket, and took it down to the court house as per the instructions. At the courthouse I gave the nearly-finished ticket to the clerk who found an available court date. And then signed the ticket. And took an oath that the information was correct.
This police officer is now going to receive the ticket in the mail with his court date. I will also be going to this court date where I will be presenting the photographic evidence of his illegal parking. He will have no excuse.
tl;dr I wrote a police officer a ticket, and now he must appear in court.
UPDATE: 500 replies w00t, I will be posting the pictures AFTER the court date. Due to legal/security reasons.

To many police officers abuse their power, I'd hate to say it, but probably only about 1/4 of the American police force actually follow the rules themselves.

I never said that police officers were inhuman. Point of the matter is the emergency lane parking scenario isnt just a little mistake. Imagine a 4 lane, 2 way street. with a car parked in the right lane.[/quote] Ok, well obviously your view of an little mistake and mine are different. But I respect your opinion, however I hope in future your consider all your options.

At no point did i say that your actions were UNreasonable, I may have questioned them but not stated they were WRONG. If you felt that was required then fine, but don't expect everyone to agree. I agree you would probably received a ticket, however it depends on the officer you get. Many people believe that cops are clones. They aren't, whilst we mostly receive the same training, you forget that we are also human.

However I believe that it may have been an honest mistake from a bad habit. Reminding him may of made the process alot easier.

OP, I draw issue not with your action, but rather with your attitude. Your actions themselves are acceptable (if a bit of a dick move), after all, none should be above the law. However, you attempt to turn what should be a clean-cut, passionless case into an issue over the abuse of power (which it is not), then post this thread expecting praise as the noble paragon of lawful good. It strikes me as arrogant and condescending.

[/quote] If you were to be in the reserve of this situation. (e.g. you were parked illegally) Then I would be asking why you were not asked to move. I've seen someone illegally parked before simply because they were not aware. I did not feel the need to issue a ticket and so gave them a warning.
