Apparently, via Twitter, Marcus Lehto has left Bungie after initially being brought back to work on a top-secret project that still remains a mystery, with no intention of returning.
Super sad news, however it leaves a variety of questions unanswered: Is the project finished? Did the project get abandoned? Did disagreements between him and Bungie open the door to his absence? Either way, good luck to him in the future, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for his work.
Personally, I heard he partnered up with CliffyB. Not really, but that would be awesome.

That sucks...
-
What did he do for Bungie?
-
That's sad news, we can only speculate, but I would think he's just not in it anymore. Y'know? (That's my guess)

This times a thousand.
Posted by: HOOBLA 911 :(
Taken from the Halo Wiki, for those who didn't know what Marcus did: "Macrus Lehto is a Creative Art Director and senior employee at Bungie Studios. He has worked at Bungie since 1997, having worked on Bungie titles such as Myth: The Fallen Lords, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. He has attached several easter eggs to his models, including his birthday on the Scorpion tank, his initials on the boot of the Master Chief and even his face on a marine in Halo: Combat Evolved and on the cavemen found in Halo 3." Cool.

Great man. I'm sure he had his reasons for leaving.
-
I remember he came back to work on something that was different from Destiny, but that project must've fallen through or he got a better offer. Marcus was a centerpiece at Bungie and it's sad to see them lose such a talented guy. Best of luck to him.
-
Damn. Seems like all of the grizzled ancients are leaving :( Marcus genuinely seemed like a nice guy. I'm sure he'll be missed at Bungie.
-
Bummer, definitely. Don't let all the old farts go!
-
Best wishes

Marcus Lehto, you must choose. Death or Exile!
-
Bummer...I wonder what would make someone want to leave Bungie.
Posted by: ChorrizoTapatio Bummer...I wonder what would make someone want to leave Bungie.
Franchise development director at 343 Industries was good for Frankie. I imagine Mr. Lehto has found a similarly promising job opportunity elsewhere.

Damn that's too bad, I wish him well. [Edited on 10.04.2012 10:21 PM PDT]

If he leaves.. That means the storyline for this new game is done. Based on the new jobs requirement, I must say that this top-secret project is finished with the alpha built, with the game engine and all, preparing for the beta built.
-
All the ancients are probably having nightmares about crunch time and seeing what Bungie what to achieve in the next 10 years. I'd jump ship too, Marcus has put in enough blood and missing out on family time.

This was my introduction to him. He seemed to be a cornerstone of the Bungie Staff and a staple to the creativity of the company. It's unfortunate to hear about his departure.

The game reached a point were they didn't need Lehto.

Just saw and ran off to twitter.
-
Hey, with any luck, he'll go over to 343i! Never hurts to have a Halo vet on the team.
-
Well I wish him the best of luck. He's great journey had has started.
-
Well, that's all she wrote.
