Since all flood forms share memories, knowledge and thoughts.(wiki+gravemind quotes)
And since the first gravemind was more or less a Precursor(wiki+books).
Then the gravemind speaking to us in halo 2 and 3 is technically a precursor.
You would say it is only 0000000.1% precursor since the rest of the memories are other species but remember that the precursors created the flood and the first gravemind.
So it's safe to say that their indentity prevails over the rest.
The flood are , after all the Precursor's creation.
Posted by: ryan299
Posted by: Pithean I was under the impression that the precursors created the gravemind and flood in their own image.
This^ I think the precusors created the flood and just set them loose on a species when they want them gone. This is what led to the forerunners wiping out the precusors. I think the promodial was probably just a precusor who survived and got affected by the flood and become a gravemind
I like this idea. I like to think the flood were created, like the rest of life in the Milky Way. If the Precursors created everyone else why not flood too?

The terminal was in a secret multiplayer map on Infinity. Here it is: Hats Off to 819
Nicodeem, lord apparent of Onlai and junior autocrat, shivered in the easterly wind. he tugged at his cloak absently and scanned the street a second time, turning his back into the wind and wrapping all four arms around his narrow chest. Nicodeem hunched his shoulders and tried to hide his nearly three meters of height in the lengthening shadows.
Apparently, (never read Cryptum) this description is strikingly similar to the ones offered in Greg Bear's novel. Say "Oh Noez" to Mr Bear, they bad books. But Hey! lets stay positive. Gravemind is a pretty wide subject, but your instincts may be right.

Same thing for Precursors.
When Captain Keys became infected he turned into a unique flood type.
No he didn't. He became part of a proto-gravemind which absorbed all his knowledge relevant to the UNSC (Colonies, force deployment, etc) Keyes noticed this and feed it random, emotional memories, trying to delay it from getting the information it wanted. He eventually died from the struggle right before the Chief arrives to save him.
Posted by: DarkestSeptagon When humans are infected they become Flood. Same thing for Precursors.
When Captain Keys became infected he turned into a unique flood type. Perhaps the gravemind is made up of these precursors? After all: Halo does not kill The Flood but it kills the food, to starve it. So it could have some precursors in it. And while I'm at it, let me just add that I much prefer the pre-Reach cannon.
Posted by: TedToaster22 Gravemind was constructed on Delta Halo. Unless there was a Precursor on Delta Halo, this could have not been the case.
There are multiple different Graveminds over the years, and they all share the smae memories. So it could have been the case that the Precursor was a Gravemind.

It's the only thing that remains of the precursors, maybe, but that certainly doesn't make it a precursor. Flood is Flood. Nothing more.

I didn't say that either. But when you have a galaxy with 0 precursors in it. The only thing that has memories, knowledge and thoughts of a precursors, could be considered one. Or at the least the closest thing to one.
