• Between about 1000 and 1700 megawatts A watt is a joule per second, work the rest out Why do you ask? [Edited on 10.03.2012 11:49 AM PDT]

Is this for an argument in favour of one of them? If so, which side are you on?

Nuclear and wave power are the best idea's, IMO. Of course, if you don't live near the coast, wave power is useless, and nuclear power can be dangerous is not treated properly.

Some idiot IRL thinks otherwise, so I'm giving him numbers. Can't argue with numbers.

Japan is in the freaking earthquake zone, how did anyone think it was a good idea to put a nuclear reactor in a place where it could quite easily fall out of its box? Also, in case he mentions it, those big chimneys are pumping out steam not horrid gases.

 •
Posted by: CND AAA Beef Why do so many people think today's reactors are Chernobyl style ticking time bombs?
I don't know why people think this. The security precautions have become so complex and intricate (in a good way) that it is next to impossible for a modern reactor these days to explode like Chernobyl did. Did I say it's impossible? No, just close to it. It can happen, but the likelihood of it is so minute, that it might as well be considered negligible.

 •
Posted by: CND AAA Beef Why do so many people think today's reactors are Chernobyl style ticking time bombs?
Because Chernobyl was in 1986. The people who were impressionable young adults in the 80's are now in their 50's and 60's and running this country, giving them the opportunity to perpetuate this idea.
