What do you think is the most significant battle in history? It doesn't have to be set in fact in a history book, this is about your opinion and no one elses.
Alternatively if you don't have an idea of the most significant, what is your favorite battle to study if you have any?
I cant put it down to a single battle, so in my opinion the Eastern Front during World War 2 was the most significant.
Posted by: RockdaleRooster
Posted by: RockdaleRooster Of course the argument could be made that Gettysburg or Sharpsburg were very crucial battles in modern history. Had Lee won at Sharpsburg it could have brought British aid to help the Confederates defeat the Union. Had the Confederates won at Gettysburg Lee would have continued pushing his invasion of the North. If the Confederates had won the Civil War it could have set a precedent of secession if you didn't agree with the Unions policies and led to Balkanization of the United States.
I'm interested to learn all of you peoples thoughts on this.
It's pretty dumbfounding to think of North American as a Balkanized territory. It has really never crossed my mind.

Stalingrad is up there...

Alamo!

Oh and for Britain, I've forgotten the name of the Battle, but it was a (relatively) small British fleet vs the Entire spanish Armada. We had no real army then so if we lost that battle, we would have lost England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

I suppose...everyone fights there own battles everyday...
Posted by: Godshatter One time, when I was playing on Terminal in Halo2 I got a killstreak of 8. This battle was only eclipsed by the battle I had with some of those dog things in Borderlands2 last night when I had to get a second chance to prevent death. Oh, and I also fought off 3 zombies at once with a bone in Minecraft today.

Posted by: IonicPaul The battle between Earth and the outside forces that threatened to disfigure/destroy it. Seriously, this planet is perfect for a life and that's a thin line to dance. Too hot, too cold, too much oxygen, too little Nitrogen, any of this (and hundreds of other aspects) out of line and we're all dead. If Earth lost that battle we'd all be dead. :)
This guy.^ I vote Marathon, Thermopylae, and Plataea, even though this has been beaten to death by debate.

Had America won they would have been the largest country on Earth with the most natural resources. They would have become the next British Empire and changed a lot of things throughout history. Like not losing Vietnam, lol. But seriously, things would have been so different. Of course by 2012, I don't think the "American Empire" would still be intact. Anyways you can thank England and Canada for helping to prevent it.
I saw this on the front page, reading through the rest to hope no one took the bait. OT: I would say Stalingrad (don't know many battles though).
Actually, just Britain. Canada was not a country at the time, only a colony, so I don't count them as a faction, only an extension of the British Empire. Not saying I dislike Canada, just going by history.
Fair enough. While people who were "Canadian" (people born and raised there) did fight at the time, the majority of the fighting was done by Britain.

It was between Constantine and some rival forces (not sure of they're name) Its that battle that pretty much started the conversion of the Roman Empire into Christianity.

Its fine :D
