•
Posted by: Egerspurge The pilot would probably die of lead poisoning before he even takes off.
that's why they have gas masks that are made out of lead to protect them from lead poisoning. oh wait..

 •
Posted by: Jet Lockheed
Posted by: BerzerkCommando My opinion? Oh boy, another expensive aircraft that is never going to get used. Besides attacking these piss poor aircraft's that these pissant militaries use.
Honestly, the military is the only thing the US has got going for it. Everything else in the USA is not so good.
Yeah, the US is literally a developing country. It only has a military. Personally, I'm typing this on an armored laptop that a convoy dropped near my house by mistake. Hopefully I don't get an airstrike called on me for daring to speak out against the regime.

 • I was expecting a stealth helicopter since Pakistan let China see the crashed stealth one used to kill Bin Ladin.

 • FUUUUUUUUUUUU just wrote a big reply only for Windows Live ID to ruin it. Anyway, I'll start again, but I'll be brief, if you want more info, just ask about a particular subject: This jet is actually showing massive potential - it'll be let down by Chinese manufacturing and avionics expertise, because they won't be able to build it from the same composite materials, or program as complex electronic warfare / radar systems into the jet. However, in terms of stealth, engines, etc, it's almost what the F-35 should have been for the Navy. It'll be limited to probably Mach 2 at the very maximum, more likely to around Mach 1.8, and it won't be stealthy from the rear, but that won't matter. There are 2 aspects to stealth: Shaping - the angles of everything visible to radar on the jet. Radar Absorbent Materials - using special paints / coatings / foams to absorb a bit of radar energy - not very useful for making jets invisible, but very handy when you want to make crevices and tubes, that otherwise might not have been completely stealthy, stealthy - as the radar waves bounce around inside these intakes and crevices, they lose energy with each bounce, which can make them insignificant enough to not be detected. China is fine with shaping - overall, it's a very simply concept and science - make all your faces and edges face as few angles as possible. The only engineering problem is fitting everything in the jet, in the body of the jet, without having to have that body excessively big (to maintain those angles). Still, shaping is still quite simple. RAM is something that we suspect China is still behind on, likely still at B-2 levels. That said, with the blatant espionage that's taken place, it's definitely possible that they could have stolen some of the formulas required to make F-35 level RAM. --- In conclusion, if this jet had F-35 avionics, materials science, and F100 or F119 engines, it'd be incredible. What China is doing however is what everyone besides the US seems to be doing though; not putting in the extra 10% effort, in order to lose 50% of it's price - with lower manufacturing standards, China can afford to build this jet for price of ~$50m, instead of the ~$90m for the F-35 or $150m for the F-22.
Posted by: CultMiester4000
Posted by: DE4THINC4RN4TE They are coming closer to what the public knows about, not what the Air Force actually has or is developing.
this. they don't pump all that money into the military and then show everyone exactly what they've spent it on.
It's funny actually; for the last 2 years, each time the US Secretary of Defence has visited China, they've revealed a new stealth fighter - either the secretary should stop visiting, or they should start visiting weekly :P But yeah; we've known about this design for years now, but we didn't know they were building it. However, this is definitely a high-end jet for them, and they're not afraid to show it off, because it works as an unspoken bargaining chip for them - it's a passive sign of aggression / challenge. If China ever tried to attack the US, it'd be crushed. However, if the US tried to launch a conventional attack on China, it might just lose - it's just not easy to attack the other side of the world. [Edited on 09.24.2012 5:07 AM PDT]

 • They are coming closer to what the public knows about, not what the Air Force actually has or is developing. If it came down to it, the USAF would blow the PRCAF right out of the sky. We will be the best... forever and ever and ever...

Paper was brought to Europe through Arabian merchants who learned of it in trade transactions with the Chinese, for whom paper would have been a widespread and widely publicly available invention. Gunpowder was brought to Europe by the Mongolian invaders/rulers of China who willingly traded its recipes to European merchants

 • Ok so instead of being 20 years behind their now 19. That's cool. And my opinion on the new aircraft is it a direct rip of an F22 Raptor. So nothing new. [Edited on 09.23.2012 11:47 PM PDT]
