Bungie and the classroom...

Today in my cyber ethics, we talked about fair usage and copyright laws. My professor's example was the Halo 3 believe trailer. We watched the video and I couldn't help but make a smile. I thought it was an interesting thing to discuss. Apparently the song in the trailer (not made by Marty) is public domain and we talked about how this made it so Microsoft could air the ad more while spending less money. There are a lot of economic and copyright issues behind marketing anything. I guess you can learn a lot from Bungie. With that in mind, has Bungie ever made it to your lecture or classroom? • Not that I can recall. It did make it out to Afghanistan though. A challenge of its own.

 • Not too much, but I wish. Every once and a while when we happen to be talking about Microsoft already it sometimes sort of rabbit trails into Bungie. But sadly, Bungie has never been in the lecture notes.

 • We have a small piece of that trailer in our lobby as a trophy. R.I.P Stan Winston.
Posted by: FALSE R3ALITYx Afghanistan
Oh, really? Please tell us more.

 • Nope, but its pretty sweet your teacher used a Halo 3 trailer as an example.

Things like copyrighted music/etc can really make advertising expensive as you have to pay royalties per use.

It was such an amazing time considering where we were. There were Bungie posters on the doors so you could tell which hooches were having LANs. So thanks for making it easier for us!!!

 • For those who don't know, the song is called Raindrops, by Chopin. It's beautiful song. The song was more recently used in the credits of the film Prometheus, but it didn't have the same emotional impact as Halo 3's Believe trailer did.

 • I'd like to take note of how smart your teacher is, he knows that using something from a game would get you teenaged boys to pay attention in class. That being said, Bungie has never been a factor for any of my classes, ever. Nadda. Nope. It would be cool if an employee came out and gave a speech though, but that would mean crossing the country....

I wish it had, but it hasn't. Maybe someday... [Edited on 09.17.2012 10:50 AM PDT]

We primarly focused the idea of "First person shooter" and "future-realistic".

 • One can only dream of discussing Halo and Bungie in the classroom. Sadly, the one teacher who liked video games was a major CoD fan who told me Halo sucks. They still haven't found the body.

Right now the only barrier is... which one to pick and how to connect two Xboxs. And I guess I have to find a way to get three more controllers which sucks since I am poor, but I do have the two Xboxs!

If you need more than 2 Xboxes you can use a Ethernet Switch Oh, Halo 2 or 3. Swords with shotguns as backup. • In my business communications class, we briefly discussed Bungie's team management. I referenced Bungie's about us page in my final paper on building more efficient teams. Odd number is better than even, men/women balance is important, the optimal range for most projects or sub-projects is three to seven, best being five. Slides between floors are both faster and more fun. Lots of interesting results from that one.

 • Never, apart from my teacher trying to tell me I didn't go to school for two weeks because I was busy playing Halo (I had Swine Flu at the time), although that doesn't really count.
