I was in an XBL party the other night with a couple of friends and a few randoms. I happen to bring up the fact that Borderlands 2 is coming out and I asked who all is getting it. All I heard was a bunch of negative responses and people talking trash about borderlands saying it is crap because it has 'bad graphics'. So I asked them, "You guys only play games for graphics?" and they pretty much said yes. I was pretty irritated and I've lost a detrimental amount of faith in today's gaming generation. Since when do graphics become a main selling point in games? People buy a game for graphics over gameplay? It's absurd.

I love Minecraft. That is all.
-
It the game is about graphics, it had better be good looking. If not, I don't care.
-
Gameplay > Graphics
-
Yes, graphics matter. Imagine if we were still playing in CE graphics for every game, that'd be horrible.
-
Not so much, but it's just another problem to tack on to the game if everything else is also garbage.
-
>borderlands >bad graphics Your friends are retards.

grafiks am maek the game awsum

Nope.
-
Not as much as gameplay matters, but good graphics are nice to have.

I care quite a bit about graphics, but they don't determine how long I will play a game for. (I still occasionally play SNES games) [Edited on 09.15.2012 2:53 PM PDT]

Sorta I care more about how things look like character design and the style of the game more than the overall graphics. It can have dreamcast or PS1 graphics for all I care as long as it looks cool.
-
In a game, graphics should be good. People can rant on about how noble they are because they play minecraft, but minecraft has awesome graphics. It's style is simple, but it's in high definition, and detailed in a variety of ways. When it comes to new games being pixelated, that's style too. Tf2 is cell shaded, that's a style. An old game looked good when it came out, and if it looked good back then, it can be respected now. Graphics are part of what makes a game, but they should never deter anyone from buying a game. The only example of "bad graphics" I can think of is Duke nukem forever. Even then, it's outdated, and that's why it's gonna fall behind newer games. In short, there is old and new, not good and bad.

Somewhat. If graphics are awesome in a game I will point it out, but they don't make or break a game for me. For all I care, we could still be making games with Super Mario 64 graphics.
-
they matter, but shouldnt be the defining part of the game.
-
I appreciate art direction more then quality photo-realism. If that makes any sense.
-
-
No, because my favourite game is Quake 1. If anyone has ever played that game, they will know that it has the worst graphics ever. You could easily think that it is the worst graphics ever, but, my god, the gameplay has never been matched ever since.
-
Not really. I'm not a whore for graphics or stunning visuals, in fact I denounce films who go ahead and claim they use such mind-blowing effects for 1 shot when entire films are made by people sitting at their computers. It's impressive when they used models made by artists and had to rely on precise timing and good camerawork to pull things off. Anyways, in games graphics should serve only to supplement the artistic theme of the game. I appreciate Minecraft because the graphics compliment the premise of the game beautifully, and I can still find myself afraid of the Creepers and skeletons in all their pixelated glory.

But Borderlands 2 doesn't have bad graphics.
-
Gameplay always goes first. But Graphic are one of the biggest bonuses.
-
I'm not fond of the art style of Border Lands, but I wouldn't call it ugly.
-
Not as much as gameplay or immersive story. Graphics are just an added bonus.
-
It matters, but not too much. I'd struggle to play with, say, CE graphics after being so used to modern ones but I can and still do comfortably play old PS2 games and Halo 2 and, of course, Minecraft.
-
Yes, but Graphics are not as important as Gameplay and Story.
