Seventh Column Council

Taken from the recent "History of the Seventh Column" article.
Q: People think of Bungie as just Halo, but 7th Column is the most old-school aspect of the community, where do you see it going in the future? A(Yeroen): In the future I would love to see the 7th Column become much more organized. With organization comes the ability to pull off bigger and better things--bigger FanFests, bigger fan films, whatever. We've considered imposing high level organization on the 7th Column in the past, but always held off. As much as we'd love to be at the forefront of this project, we believe it will only be successful if it is organized from within, by its own members.
Ok, well I suppose we should get to work. Sounds like bungie really wants us to setup some sort of governing body for the seventh column. Might be best to get this started now before halo 2 hits and were all too busy fragging each other. So how do we do this? Should we model the SCC after our democratic goverment and have a president and advisors? I don't really know. What are your ideas? (i know we've had this conversation in the past -- but lets recap). [Edited on 5/6/2004 2:31:32 PM]

 • Right. It would basically be like a group of people who can really put some wieght into decisions of the seventh column. Kinda like a voice of the people thing.

 • The SCC wouldn't be about hostings LANs. It'd about running The 7th Column. [Edited on 5/7/2004 12:37:18 AM]

 • im new and all, but common sense will tell you that all these elections and LAN chapter representitives would be just like a government. not saying that government is abad and all, but do we at the seventh column really want that? Or do we just want a time to get together and talk about stuff we did or found out about new up-coming halo stuff?...thats jus my opinion th...you all can ignore it, or go off of it,it dosent change the world for me.-KotT

 • Well, you know the "Spotlight" thing on the SC homepage? Maybe Bungie could select a few people that run chapters. You know, people who hold tournaments and manage their chapter well. Then those people create a new chapter (The Holy Chapter. Kow-tow!). Anyway, then chapters from all over the world can submit to be their area's representative chapter (2 per state maybe). Sure I'm just ranting, and it seems complicated, but with this system (Or something like it) LAN's all over the US and aborad could be going all at once, in their respective area. Almighty Chapter / \ / \ Rep. Chapter Rep. Chapter The A.C. (Almighty Chapter) can determine date etc, and the wee ones can bust out massive LAN parties all at once. Ok, this really made no sense did it. Damn, I tried. Maybe someone will build off of this. -matt

 • Yea elections are a bad idea. Ok I'm going to write up a document that explains what I think the SCC is and how it should function. You guys have to comment on it. SCC is a nerdy name though. I'm going to try to come up with something better. [Edited on 5/6/2004 5:19:17 PM]

 • If it's anything like American elections then scrap the whole idea ;-) We should have a council with a leader whose only power really is to cast the deciding vote in hung votes, and to basically organise everyone. I don't know how any elections would work - the best known aren't necessarily the best for the job - so maybe just get the Bungie Community Team to pick a few people.
