Identifying Jerks.

At what point do you decide that someone's being a jerk? When do you decide enough is enough and report them? Bonus question: What should be done with members who just can't be tolerated? [Edited on 08.19.2012 9:59 PM PDT]

 • If they call any given person any word that is -blam'd!- or drama from one thread carries over into another. Or they randomly hate on somebody for no reason because of a personal bias. inb4omgyou'vedonethatbefore

 • Excessive swearing. Not listening (Or reading I guess). repeating the same argument over and over. Create a thread that's obviously flamebait (Mac vs PC, Anything vs Halo) Generally I think of myself having a watch list with levels. (Almost always accurate for me too) Title that's not member - Going in assuming they're fine. Title that's member - Skeptical but I'll read and do what I can. Avatar is the starting one - Suspicious, unless I recognize the name, I'll check join date too.. [Edited on 08.19.2012 9:48 PM PDT]

 • If they're rude and I don't know them. Because if I know them, I'll know if they're kidding. If the person on the receiving end of something that seems rude knows the person giving it, mostly it's for kicks and giggles. But if you get, say, Qbix and I? This is genuine malice I have for that fishy jerk. And he smells like the color of his text.

 • I don't think I really distinguish "jerk" posts from regular posts. People post with opinion and emotion all the time, all I really concern myself with is what they're saying and the facts behind it and logic behind it. Just because someone isn't babying you shouldn't warrant a report. If you're so low that you report posts, you should at least report spam or problem posts.

 • "enough is enough"? If someones post is against the rules, is only attacking another memeber, or other bad things I will report them on the spot. I do not clutter the posts Ninjas must go through by spamming it on people who are well-meant and took something seriously. [Edited on 08.19.2012 10:08 PM PDT]

 • What constitutes one's jerkiness(mmmm jerky) varies from jerk to jerk, but I don't report people just for needing an attitude adjustment.
Posted by: Grimaldus Bonus question: What should be done with members who just can't be tolerated?
*draws sword* EXECUTE THEM!

 •
Posted by: Grimaldus When do you decide enough is enough and report them?
Whoa man that's a tad extreme. I mean it's easy enough to track down most people's personal details (after, of course, deciding enough is in fact enough) and go from there but reporting - that's some hardcore -blam!-.

 • When it feels like I'm arguing with a 12 year old on the internet instead of someone with some inherent maturity. Actually, if it comes down to actually arguing on the internet, then I kinda feel like a 12 year old anyways...

Obviously no /b/tards act that way out in the real world, because they'd be viewed as having serious problems. 4chan is just an outlet where they can express what they think/feel. As far as the OP is concerned, I'd say it's hard to pin down a 'jerk', since everyone defines it differently. Some people here think that anyone who says anything slightly sarcastic or cynical is a jerk, and whine about the need for stricter moderation on 'jerks'. [Edited on 08.20.2012 6:56 AM PDT]

 • When everyone is enjoying the thread and then somebody makes a very negative post for no reason. Less mature people don't understand that they don't need to put their input in every thread, if you want to be negative for no reason go somewhere else.
