It's like the claws in Halo Wars. There are various species, there's interbreeding, and each legion of troops is generally a few families from the same system or something like that IIRC

Graphical update?

I always just figured the boots that the Elites in Reach wore were lower profile than the others so you can see more of the form of their feet whereas in previous games, their boots are bulkier. almost like they have thicker heels. That was always my take anyway. I think visually, the 'dino' feet look better.

It went more with natural flowing look of the Covenant.

I had always thought that elites had hooves for feet until Halo: Reach

You see, the entire reason for the Covenant invasion was because humans had a sort of Jurassic Park on Reach.

Is the hate for halo reach that strong for you guys not to realize reach had the best elites since halo ce? Halo 2 and 3's elites sucked. In ODST they were just corpses.

In ODST they were just corpses.[/quote]If they're the best, why can they still succumb to the various tactics that afflicted H3 Brutes? The only reason why they can be seen as superior is because everything else is downplayed: weaker plasma pistol, nerfed noob combo, weapon sandbox is redundant, weaker player. Oh and they cheat: high damage, high damage resistance, extremely fast speed, fast RoF. If I were playing as H2/H3 Master Chief in Reach, they would barely be above standard AI. Almost every encounter with them is straightforward. There were many options when fighting CE Elites. When fighting Reach Elites, it's the same with H3 Brutes minus grenade sticks: plasma pistol and utility weapon. Now then, H2 Elites sucked as allies on higher difficulties. That is true (though if you helped them out, they could do well. They can last long even on Mythic). But as enemies, they were at their prime. A little lack of responsiveness and the occasional mishap, but even Reach Elites have a lack of responsiveness and make mistakes, not to mention how they are gullible, easily succumbing to Hologram, easily being commanded by needle rifle fire, and exposing their backs by berserking for no apparent reason. Try going up to a berserking H2 Ultra Elite. You only have a little time before he does a turning melee. Hell, he doesn't even have to melee. Just pulling out the sword can kill you. H3 Elites definitely sucked as allies but their responsiveness was insane. Course, they were reckless, always charging into battle and giving the enemy some time to prepare (sword Elites must wait longer before meleeing again). [Edited on 08.09.2012 9:51 AM PDT]
