Am i the only one disappointed in Cortana's Halo 4 makeover?
I mean, they made her all.. sexified. i mean, bigger boobs, dark hair and dark lips? i for one don't like it. She was never supposed to have any sex appeal in my opinion and to go and give her that kind of makeover was really just unnecessary, probably just a ploy to sell the game to a wider audience. And i'm pissed, because she was my favorite character. She's like the girl next door who was your best friend until she changed herself for an audience who won't even appreciate her for who she is.
Hot Cortana is bad.

Cortana has changed every game, as evidenced by your link. Although her new appearance may seem to invoke sex appeal (Didnt Jason Jones call Cortana "everyone's dream girlfriend?) Personally I think she is trying to model herself to look more human to appeal to John, or is trying to achieve humanity, being driven mad by her AI limitations. IF I get that explanation in-game, the "trying to achieve humanity," I'll accept it. But I for one think 343i wants sex to sell. Cortana is the main female character at this point, and from this point on, she'll probably be on lists with Lara Croft and Bayonetta, which isn't what Cortana is about. I want to care about Cortana because she's smart and losing her mind, not because I need more AI chesticles during my cutscenes. [Edited on 06.12.2012 10:33 PM PDT]

I half-support your rant, but only appearance-wise. They should have kept the same overall facets of her character and changed perhaps the patterns on her skin, the little details on her. I don't mind the "sexified" appearance. In fact, she looks much more human now, even if she is a bit more... well, more. I do like the premise on her character development, and her ongoing struggle with rampancy, it will certainly be a very interesting plot element. In this light, her appearance seems almost trivial. Don't forget she also doesn't show her holographic body 90% of the time. Her voice and character define cortana, not her looks. PD I don't mind the boobs :D [Edited on 06.12.2012 11:03 PM PDT]

Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either, mainly cause she used to be long and thin. Now she looks bloated, swollen. I'm not buying the whole "trying too look more human" thing either. First of all, since when has she been described as looking, well not human, isn't that just a graphical barrier? And secondly, if she's struggling with rampancy or whatever, wouldn't she have to focus on that, instead of giving everything she's able to get her hands on, a makeover? Yes she's gone though some chance throughout the games, but she's never changed this drastically. She's like a different woman now. Just for the fun of it, I showed my classmates a picture of her from 3, and one from 4. Most of them didn't think they were the same person, even though I explained that she had gone through a redesign. So if people who aren't already interested in Halo don't like her new appearance... I've always thought her design was good. I wouldn't even mind if she looked just like in CE but with improved graphics, throughout the entire series. If you have to change something now and than, mix around with her hair and patterns, or what she hologrpahically can do. Stay the -blam!- away from her geometry (design wise). And I think they did add a little HUD where the face pops up. probably doesn't pop up everytime she talks though, but I'm definitely gonna have to get used to seeing this new face. It's like she's a new Cortana.

I don't mind her new appearance. Sure they made her a lot more...defined with her latest makeover. But it's not something that bothers me.

I was convinced that the Master Chief and Cortana were going to have different voices. When I saw the E3 video I was immensely relieved. I think Halo 3 Cortana is best, she's the most human. I agree, the new one isn't as good, it looks like she's wearing make-up. Can't change these things though! Anyway, in the gameplay demo, when she appears on the HUD, she looks pretty similar to H3 Cortana.

I liked all the Cortanas so far: I liked the Purple, very mature one in CE Halo 2 Cortana was exciting Halo 3 was great for her Cortana moments and looks. Reach's was a bit of a glimpse, but it was enough for me to cry manly tears of joy (though her appearance seemed the most odd of them all to me) and I was proud to carry her on my back The new Halo 4 Cortana... I haven't seen enough of her to judge, but I like her mature and yet feminine looks (she's the most feminine of all the versions is what I think). [Edited on 06.13.2012 11:08 AM PDT]

Some of you guys just... [i]don't[/i] seem to get it. Firstly, if you want to talk about sex appeal in videogames then just look at the Final Fantasy series. Halo has the equivalent of Rugrats in terms of sex appeal in-comparison to that game. Secondly, WTF OP? You're saying that she's now a bad character because she's not ugly? Why don't you compare Cortana in Halo 2/3/Reach to Halo CE before you start pointing the finger at Halo 4, this attractiveness is NOT a new concept. Also, do you completely fail to see the point of it all? Cortana is descending into rampancy, it only makes sense that we have a sympathetic figure to reflect that - her younger appearance creates an image of fragility and vulnerability. Just look at the shots of her in the E3 trailer, I can relate to her looks of confusion/terror/sorrow in that a lot more than I could in most of the games.

Really, maybe I'm looking a bit too deep, but this new Cortana seems like she's naked. I mean, the first three HALO's looks like she's in a tight jumpsuit compared to what we get in 4 - you can see the belly button in the concept art and her breasts seem to be, well, naked, except she as an AI doesn't have nipples. Really Cortana has been -blam!-ized quite a bit for Halo 4. 343 need a marketable female character, that means she needs to appear more human, ehrm, more naked. Sex sells, don't forget that.

I was disappointed since the Halo 2 change. I was glad short hair got the spot light in the first game. I go crazy for that -blam!-. The iconic purple getting dumped away annoyed me too. It doesn't matter though, as long as Jen Taylor is in the booth, her character will always be awesome. [Edited on 06.13.2012 3:25 PM PDT]

It gives her more of a physical appearance, this change seems good in the context of the Halo 4 story. She's more 'real' because she's becoming more of a character.

I reckon if its 343's take on what she should look like leave it too them but i agree with most of your opinions on the matter some things can be taken to far...
