Posted by: Seggi31
Posted by: squirrel dude How do you define the worth of a college degree?
Likely monetary return.
Should a college degree's value only be determined by the market for the skills that the degree hypothetically provides, or is there an intrinsic value to degrees which provides greater knowledge. Is a history degree not just as valuable as a business degree, if only in a different way?

Thinking about enlisting in the Marine Corp and going Intel Analyst. Theres a huge demand for these guys in the civilian sector and they often make 6 figures right off the bat without those pesky college debts.
Some college degrees are intrinsically better than others for practical reasons, such as getting a job. For example, a degree in business will aid you more in the necessities of everyday life than a degree in gender studies. However, that doesn't mean that gender studies isn't void of any value. For you gain knowledge from your educational training. That said, you should major in something that will get you a job after your education. Especially if you're going on the taxpayer's dime(Military) or on a family member's expense.

However, if you have a plan to use your Gender Studies degree in some way as your career, I see no reason not to go down that path.

That said, some do use it for their job, i'm sure.
