Kids aren't allowed to make mistakes anymore

If you make a mistake, like being 18 drinking at a party next to a 17 year old, boom. Criminal record. Girlfriend sends you pic of her naked? Boom. Registered sex offender, work at Target for the rest of your life. The list goes on. Is it me, or if a kid makes a mistake, the rest of his life if screwed over? Is this fair?

 • Yeah... The law was much looser and nicer for previous generations.

 • Examples were more of being stupid not mistakes... I came in here expecting this to be about school.

 • You had a perfectly good point in your title, but you give bad examples. This should have been about school or failure in life (and how children are not taught to learn from it) but you make it about idiotic things. I expected more Comrade :(

 • No that's just redundant. While some things minors do should have serious consequences, but some crimes consequences shouldn't be as severe.

When my parents were teenagers, if you were caught drinking at a party, the police basically said "Don't do that again", and took you home.

 • I think the only difference is that now when you're not careful everyone will know about it (your mistake) because your best friend posted it on his facebook wall

 •
Posted by: Ryle Cytarai Yeah... The law was much looser and nicer for previous generations.
It actually was. Lots of adults knew my mum was underage drinking but know she was responsible they didn't stop her. I went to a pub where my mum and uncle knew the owner and we used to go there often, they actually served me when I went the bar I was like 15-16. Then again as long as your having a meal you can underage drink.

There's a bigger issue at hand but you choose these as your examples. Parents who teach their kids that either a) failure is absolute and you cannot redeem yourself or b) the child is perfect and never makes any mistakes is far more disastrous for society than this.

And do you honestly think someone should still be arrested for a crime like that being two months older than them? [Edited on 05.06.2012 9:35 AM PDT]

 • At my school (middle/high), if someone walks up to you out of the blue and punches you in the face and breaks your nose, you, having done nothing to them, you will still get suspended.

The law is messed up.

 • What I'm trying to get across is that something you do at 16 shouldn't follow you for the rest of your life.

And no certain things shouldn't stay with you, people mature and realise their mistakes. [Edited on 05.06.2012 9:47 AM PDT]
