What is going on with game publishers????

These past few weeks have really been bad news for gaming. Okay, so... Activision has destroyed Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and World of Warcraft. EA was responsible for ruining possibly the greatest game trilogy of this generation... But the straw that broke the camel's back for me, is the fact that LucasArts sabotaged the development of Battlefront III, and also still haven't come out with a sequel to RC2, Jedi Knight, or Rogue Squadron for this generation. I understand that this is cOLD, but it still pisses me the hell off. WHY would they do this? Oh, and let's not forget about Day One DLC and the multiplayer activation codes. Publishers are seriously starting to scare me. Greed is destroying the industry, and it's only getting worse. Look at the Crysis series. Crysis 2, while still a good game, was completely inferior to Crysis 1. And after establishing that The Ceph are all over the world, they're sending us RIGHT BACK TO NEW YORK CITY FOR CRYSIS 3. It looks like EA's bull-blam!-ery is affecting Crytek as well. Is it true that Indie and F2P games are the future? Are we going to have another video game crash? [Edited on 05.04.2012 10:45 PM PDT]

 • Developers don't put their heart and soul into making video games anymore, it's all about the money now.

 • No there is still -Halo 4 - Heart of the Swarm - BO2 looks at the very least interesting - Diablo 3 ( If you're into that) - etc. EA, Konami, THQ, and Ubisoft are the F-ups here. [Edited on 05.04.2012 10:50 PM PDT]

Look at games like Amnesia, Bastion, and Tribes: Ascend. The gems are still out there; they're just either Indie or less-known.

I only ever got like five games for the Wii, and I have no intention to get a 3DS.

 • I'm in the midst of trying out different gaming developing software... it will change everything you know about gaming (no it won't). But assuming I'm actually competent enough to get a hold of the software, I think this would be the first place I would go to 'show-case' the game. I'm thinking of something like 'Halo: Reach' done in the style of a 2-D plat-former (armor abilities and all)... and here's how I see it: If you don't like what's being made, make what you would like yourself and stop complaining. ): And yes... playing games will slowly start becoming more of an 'investment', which only makes sense because of the size and scope of the software and the time it takes developers to build it. :S

 • OP I have 3 words. Blizzard. Valve. Croteam. I still feel very safe buying any of their games.

 • How long does a video game crash usually last? If you could actually guess that. I haven't seen one since I'm only 15.

The whole thing with Wasteland 2 I think is what sparked this to be more well-known. ALSO, to anyone who sees this post: check out Totalbiscuit's WTF is series. The purpose of the series is to give less-known/indie games the recognition they deserve. Check it out. [Edited on 05.04.2012 11:08 PM PDT]

 • I liked Crysis 2 more than Crysis 1. While I agree that publishers are starting to worse with Online Passes, etc, I think the community is also getting worse. They will attack anything that is wrong with a game. They tore Mass Effect 3, which I think is the best game in the trilogy, apart just because of the ending. I don't let the little things ruin the whole for me.

 • Funny thing is they are only pissing off the people who actually buy these games. The people who mod are always going to get these games for free one way or another. Sooner or later people are going to get tired of the nickel and diming and only buy blockbuster titles. I stopped playing Halo 3 because I couldn't get matches with players that bought DLC. Same with Reach. They really lose a lot of business by doing this. For the first time in years I'm probably not going to buy a year subscription to XBL.

And the 3DS is just now getting great titles. In fact, Kid Icarus uprising is probably going to be my favorite game this year. RE Revelations brought back true horror to the series, and has me on edge half the time. /opinion

And the complaining about Mass Effect 3's ending was actually a good thing, because it really was horribly bad writing and was riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies. If anything, this shows that communities are getting better. We're finding our voices and are actually starting to influence positive change in games. [Edited on 05.04.2012 11:22 PM PDT]

But I'm primarily a PC gamer.

In Crysis 2, I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I don't know why. Just seeing New York falling to pieces, Central Park lifting into the air, just amazed me. As for Mass Effect 3, I actually didn't like the ending either and I do think it is a good thing that people complained about it, but I was only using it as an example. I've seen people go crazy for anything. Armor Lock in Reach, Dante not being the actual Dante in the new Devil May Cry, Left 4 Dead 2 coming out not too long after the first one, MGS 2 having you play as Raiden instead of Snake even though they play the same exact way and didn't really affect the awesome story. These are obviously just my opinions. I tend to look only at the good things in games. I tend to enjoy them more that way. I'm not looking for perfection. If Half Life 3 ever gets announced, it will get hit by a massive -blam!-storm, I am sure, even though it will most likely be a great game. [Edited on 05.04.2012 11:35 PM PDT]

Something was being woken up, and my squad was being picked off and taken one by one by an unknown foe. I just loved the feel of mystery throughout the entire game, and I feel EA may be butchering that with Crysis 3. And yes, I understand. It's good that you focus on the positive qualities of games. :)

 • Developers just have to completely stop trusting EA. Then maybe things could get better.
