Quarantine Zone - Phantom Flip Launch On The Sentinel Wall

Hello fellow Halo 2 fans! I have another special challenge I completed recently. Thanks to some great info from Grumpy I was able to launch off of a crashed phantom and land up on the sentinel wall on foot and walk around. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr9lwEakuqE This was a pretty good challenge. It took many hours of launching and a few times I came very close but didn't quite make it. If you're not familiar with seeing a crashed phantom, let me explain: The phantom and pelican can both "overload" which means it will stop flying on it's normal path and crash, and what you see when you approach it is "press x to flip banshee". You see this because Bungie programmed them as a banshee just with a different body to it. When you spin it, they can spin really fast and I was able to study how they move and practice launching off them with a full overshield using the Black Eye skull. Creating a close checkpoint and the knowledge of how to crash the phantom was all Grumpy, a very special thanks to him for making my idea a reality. Enjoy! -Bizz

 •
Posted by: Dr Bizz Hey Sliding Ghost! No, launching was really tough but the setup was hard too. I spent a lot of time fooling around with getting a checkpoint to trigger as close as possible on my way back to the first map where the phantom had dropped. Grumpy bailed me out of a 2 minute ghost ride back for each launch attempt because of his awesome knowledge of QZ. I wish I had that kind of vision and creativity when it comes to understanding the game. I don't. I'm good at things you can learn and practice and then try a billion times but I was never great at pioneering ideas. We all have our strengths and weaknesses I guess.
Hey. I don't understand why Bungie didn't take the checkpoint system any further or replace it because it is flawed imo. H2 ultimately sabotaged it, making it so that you lose the cp if it's delayed too long. But it also introduced 5 times death revert to second last checkpoint (though this wasn't the best solution). You could still delay some checkpoints for a very long time. And meleeing was a new option afaik. H3 got rid of the meleeing and not one checkpoint can be delayed for more than 5 jumps. ODST added nothing. Reach added nothing. I wish I had that too. I didn't think it was possible to squeeze a Wraith through a small gap and get it through or get a Spectre to the top of Great Journey or squeeze a Banshee through a small tunnel. Then again, vehicles are not my area of expertise. I don't do vehicle collections. I work with AI. [Edited on 05.04.2012 4:02 PM PDT]

 • Thanks Bloodpit. Yeah this one was tough. It was so cool to be up there. These things do take time and skill but it's damn sweet when all that work pays off and you achieve your goal. I'm never satisfied though. When I finish something like this I move on really fast to the next idea. A lot of ideas don't work out, too. I'm facing most certain defeat right now with something I've worked at for a while. You gotta take chances and the possibility of losing a lot of time on something you simply can't do is very real.

 • Nice job. I wish I had enough time and skill to do these tricks.
