Was there a better game at the time?
I certainly thought not!
This game was an evolution, and i find myself going back to my original copy of the game, i'm hooked. I don't think there was a better game at the time, and still holds its head up high, it's quality.
What are your opinions on Halo CE?

I simply believe people find something they like and they ONLY want that one thing. Publishers make good money pushing out sequels. When the publishers get greedy and rush games, quality goes down. Fans get upset. Devs are forced to change aspects to appeal to new fans in order to make publishers money again. Fanbase is swapped. Original fanbase soon corrodes. New fanbase loses interest. End of series.

I was playing my PS2 from late 2003 to mid 2008... around the time I graduated and upgraded to a 360. Between both machines, I had the most fun on the PS2... it had GTA 3, Vice City and finally San Andreas. I had a N64 before that... I would consider my time with that console to be superior to all other gaming experiences I would ever have after that. Zelda, Starfox, Mario, Tony Hawk, Golden Eye and everything else. Why are we always indulging in the past? I think we should be responsible for making the next 'Orcorina of Time' or the next 'Golden Eye'... but all of the ambition has turned elsewhere apparently. ):

Both were revolutionary in terms of design and capability compared to previous games, and their sequels were just pure awesome (Crash 2/3 had much much better graphics and more variety of levels, and need I explain Halo 2?)

I still think it's better than most FPS games even now. It isn't my favourite game ever though.

Nintendo is squeamish about third party developers and the PC has "issues".

as for a better game nothing will ever beat halo. As for more time played it has to go to doom. Playing the last couple of levels on that thing was literally the most impossible thing in gaming i have ever seen. Especially cause after every game over you have to start from the beginning.

That's like saying the Crash Bandicoot trilogy lost its credit with Crash Team Racing
