Keyboard vs. Joystick
For years this debate has raged in many a forum. Keyboard/Mouse or Joystick? We'll run over the most common arguments for each as they relate to Halo 2 Vista. Then members of the H2V Dev Team took on the Bungie Community Team in an epic Keyboard vs. Joystick Humpday.

That makes me feel better with MM.... There are n00bs everywhere, even on PC. On a side note, Halo three should be really customizable if H2V is.... I want to never have to take my thumbs away from their respective homes again!

Although im a fan of the bungie community,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and that i like the fact that for once in a LONG while,,,,,,,,,the bungie community actually won,,,,,,but i disagree with you guys on the theory that its better to play with the keyboard and mouse. Even-though the Vista comm. lost,,,,,,,,,,,,the JOYSTICK its still better than some keyboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Edited on 8/23/2006]

O_o Why should it matter if it's intuitive or not. If you cant read a sheet of paper to figure out what keyes do what, then why are you playing the game?

Of course, the problem with this article is that it makes it look like controllers are better than keyboards and mice, which, if you're intelligent, you know is not the case. To be honest, I did want some H2V info. I want to know some of the possible control schemes.

as someone said earlier, the vista team is playing a group that has played halo PROBABLY before we were playing the original game on xbox. hell, put me in there and i would probably beat those guys with a keyboard mouse 9/10 times. its just a fact....i can move my guy left and right faster using my two fingers hitting A and D than you can moving your thumb left and right. the keyboard mouse always wins given that the two opponents are on the same skill level with the game and autoaim is off. thats another thing...we werent hinted at if autoaim will be included or not. for the love of god...LEAVE IT OUT!!! I want to know some of the possible control schemes.[/quote] Here's my scheme for Halo 1: w = forward s = backwards a = strafe left d = strafe right e = action/reload/exchange weapon r = reload f = flashlight g = Switch Grenade z = Zoom Weapon SHIFT = Throw Grenade CTRL = Melee Attack Left Mouse Button = Fire Weapon Middle Mouse Button = Crouch Right Mouse Button = Jump Mouse Wheel = Switch Weapon I'm left-handed so it works out great. ovcourse the controller is better, the reason is that we are using are thumbs on the controller wile we are using are fingers on the keyboured, are thumbs just seem more ....normal, and are thumbs are acutley faster then are fingers (ever try to button mash with your fingers,....its hard)

Intuitive doesn't mean you can figure it out. It means it comes extremely naturally like the joysticks on a 360. You don't have to think to yourself hmmm.... which joystick aims again? For the comp sometimes you have to think which buttons do what.

button mashing is difficult in the position your hands are in when holding a controller. move your fingers to a "typing" position on your ABXY buttons and you will see how fast you can really go. how do you think people beat those special stages in mortal kombat? with ONLY their thumb? lmao...

yeah but if any body done a button mashing with there fingers in the typeing position they would have been dead in halo 2 lol but theres no mashing in halo 2 lmao [Edited on 8/23/2006]

Meh, Community guys probably had auto-aim on. ;) You guys should record some of the action during the Humpdays and post a montage of the best kills and action.

So...does this mean if you use the joystick you'll have autoaim. Because if it handles just like Xbox Halo 2 then I guess it must have autoaim.

OMG, that test was not fair Bungie Community team could as easly been better then The Halo 2 Vista team with or without the controller. I say there should be another test with 3 groups of people all having a go with a keybored/mouse and a controller at least once. I have play Halo 1 on pc and xbox and i feel i am better with my keybored and mouse. Even with Halo 2 i don't think i'm that good with the controller, it just fells slow as with the keybored and mouse i can easly move around and fight. [Edited on 8/23/2006]

I played Halo PC with a Keyboard/Mouse and a 360 controller, and i'm definitly better with the controller. I must just be used to it. It's a good thing you can make the H2V controls like on an Xbox 360 with your 360 controller. In Halo PC you can't assign the control "Hold X" or "Hold Y" so i had to assign some controls to the D-pad.
