•
Posted by: UXB Seeing as how H2V will allow custom content in the form of user created maps and I am assuming there will be a dedicated and client server for multiplayer functionality my main question is: Q. How will the Halo 2 Vista client handle the dowload of H2V user maps? Will the user need to download and install the maps first like in Halo CE or will the server/client have the functionality to offer ingame downloads from the server or re-directed downloads (to a http server) for the user created maps? It is common for the user community to be responsible for the distribution of the user created content, as we do at www.halomaps.org for Halo CE, so my question stems from the obvious need to estimate how much more bandwidth we will need to support downloads for the H2V maps. Thank you.
I hope/reccommend that it is similar to what it was for CE. Perhaps make it a bit more mainstream by adding a 'suspend program' where it minimizes the game and brings up a new window saying 'click here to resume H2V'. Then the user could download whatever map(s) they want and then click a 'scan for new maps' option to re-read the checksums/etc./whatever. Simply downloading a map from the server itself would be terribly impractical, especially since the cache's can be incredibly large. I flinch at having to pay for the bandwidth of map hosting along with gameplay. Especially after the fiasco where bungie.net referrals ran up three and a half times the monthly bandwidth in just three days.

 • That resolution is massive. My computer screen is only 1024 by 768.

 • I'm predicting it looks similar to the picture below, except 10x better running on PC >_> http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/441/cinematiclighting5aa2.jpg [Edited on 8/22/2006]

 • Many people are looking forward to a response to this. Q. What developement tools will be available on release. Q. Will the origional Max>blitzkrieg>tool>guerilla>sapien>tool>game flow still be available? Q. If the community begins screaming, in large numbers, for a new developement aspect to be implemented, for instance the ability to work with recorded animations in H1's SDK, what would be the chances that said aspect would become available to work with. Q. Will pllugin support be available for your new SDK? Q. I'm also wondering how well this post of mine back from the origional announcement struck home. I got a few PMs from moderators saying stuff like it was forwarded to the proper place. I'm wondering if they took my advice from my experiences day to day with the CE dev community.

 • Oh ya, is the online going to have servers or is it matchmaking? If it does work with Live Anywhere, when one plays an Xbox player will you then have to go through Matchmaking, and when your only playing PC kids will you have a choice from Matchmaking or servers. If it does work with Live Anywhere, can you bring an Xbox player into a server game without Matchmaking just by having them in your paty. Will Halo 2 Vista have Leaderboards like Halo 2 on Xbox? If yes, will the Vista and Xbox Leaderboards be combined, or separated? [Edited on 8/22/2006]

 • My question(s), are there going to be any "goodies" or special "Vista-only" things in the game. Maybe a new map or two, maybe a new... duno... something? Maybe a/the campaign level(s) will be re-worked and that the path wont be the same way. Ex. you turn left at point A instead of right. Maybe a special alternate ending or something at the end of the game showing a thing from Halo 3, or something. Maybe a hidden video? Also, will Halo 2 Vista be on Live Anywhere? If if yes, will the player be able to choose to play pc-only gamera, xbox only gamers, or a combination of both. One more quation. What are minimum specs for the game, as in my computer is only two years ond and it can only play games before that time period. If I was to EVER play Halo 2 Vista or even get Vista for that matter, I would need a new computer.

 • Finally, an update on Halo 2 Vista! Here are just a few questions and concerns I, and probably many others, have about Halo 2 Vista... Q: Will we be able to add the "-console -devmode" parameters to the Halo 2 shortcut and be able to enter the game in developer mode, like with Halo CE? This is one of the best features you can use in Halo CE, and it would be terrible to see it be lost in Halo 2, especially if there isn't going to be a second custom edition where it could be enabled. Q: How is the netcode based? Server side or client side? If it is server (please be), can we really have all of the devmode functions available with a simple parameter, especially since it is impossible to cheat in Halo's server side netcode? =) Q: How is the HUD? Is it going to look awful on a higher resolution, rather than the 640x480 Xbox resolution? Is it be blurry/jaggy at all? Q: Are any of the shaders modified from Halo 2 to the point where they look as bad as they did when you compare Halo Xbox to Halo PC (HUD meters, Jackal shields, weapon/flagpole shaders, main menu Halo, etc.)? Q: Will there be a "beep" when you shoot and hit another player while playing multiplayer? This was one of the biggest, most helpful features in Halo CE, so you could tell that you were actually shooting someone due to the various latency on different servers. Q: When you plug in an Xbox 360 controller, are you going to get the HUD messages like they are displayed on the Xbox (Press (X) to pickup [weapon])? Q: Have the main menu images been reworked to be sharper on a higer resolution than the Xbox? If there are any new created menus, do they flow seamlessly with the originals, or do they look like they were created in Paint? *cough* Halo PC multiplayer/settings menus *cough* Q: The "Checking for Updates" screen is probably going to be implemented into the game, so is it going to take an hour for it to check for updates, then finally tell you that there actually isn't an update and proceed on? Is it going to be under a settings menu, like with one of the new Halo CE UI's (my team's), or is it going to be right as you click on "Internet" under the multiplayer screen? Q: Does the active camouflage work on BOTH ATI and nVidia graphics cards, or only ATI, like in Halo PC? Q: Are the credits going to be ugly, horribly colored, text only credits like in Halo PC, or are they going to be the same, low quality, 337 MB, credits_60.bik file as Halo 2 Xbox has, or is it going to be completely different from those two? A higher quality movie, or the actual renderring of the credits? Q: Will you be prompted to sign in with a profile EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' TIME you play the game? (Please be no) Q: Will you have to "Press (ENTER) to Continue", like with Halo 2 Xbox? (Please be yes) Q: If you are inactive for a minute or so, will the 117 MB, low quality attract_60.bik file play with its screwed up, misplaced sounds in the video? If it is placed in, will it be higher quality? (Yes and yes, please =D) Q: When dual wielding, is left mouse button primary fire (right gun), and right mouse button secondary fire (left gun) (please be this), or does the left mouse button fire the left gun, and right mouse button fire the right gun? Can we change it in the settings if we don't like the feel of them? Q: Is there (going) to be online/LAN co-op? This is one of the things everyone would look EXTREMELY forward to, and would be a HUGE plus for the game. =) Q: What are the benchmarks of Halo 2 so far with your test computers? How do they compare to other computers? How much of the CPU cycles does it consume, how much RAM does it take up at any random time, and how are your frames per second? Q: How featured and advanced is the new "map editor"? Is it more advanced than the HEK (PLEASE be =D), or is it so under-advanced, that you can create a map with terrain, spraypaint the textures on, add trees, place some pre-modeled bases, and export within five minutes? Q: Is there ANYTHING which is being removed from (or even added to) Halo 2 which you think will like, but will end up hating in the end? Anything which you think is "smart", but is one of the dumbest, most idiotic things to do, ever? Not things like removing the Matchmaking system, but other things like the shaders. Much of these things I hinted at with the questions above, given the unfortunate experience we had with the Halo PC conversion.

 • i was just curious if H2V will look better than the original Halo 2, running on the X360 that's connected to 1080i HDTV. how much better can it look if it's still the same Halo 2 engine just optimized for the PC?

 • i think that there should be a special sever that plays zombie games non stop and another sever for the other games like hide n seek or cat and mouse. more importantly there should be ranked things like in halo2 live and unranked versions of those ones. becuase say some one has a friend over and they really suck and they want to play but u dont wanna loose a rank cuase they suck and u cant even help them out becuase its a one person game on the comp. sry for bad spelling im sleepy

 • Good update. I was wondering if there will be the same sort of lag that is on the Halo 1 MP games. I mean leading is one of the main aspects of Halo 1 PC and i was wondering if this will be fixed to mirror the halo 2 xbox version or whatnot. also if leading is required, try to fix the bullets hitting the guys when ur leading, its often complicated to see if you are doing any damage during laggy games even if you are leading.

 • i cant wait till h2v but i really would like to know if there going to figure out a way to get rid of the rrx glitch. I like battle rifle start games and I really dont want to go into a game and get rrxyyrrx in the face with some guy using a macro or has his keyboard set up to do it really easy. I mean u hardly see it in MM becuase its hard to do on a controller so i dont mind as much there but on the pc that glitch is going to be way over done. Other wise this game will be totally awsome.

 • I am also a beta tester and it runs fine for me, except when i alt-tab from lets say Halo PC, and try to go back into it, it gives me a BSOD(lame..). But then i just say to myself, it is just a beta..other than that every game works fine just the fact that minor things like alt-tabing can still be messed up, i wonder what RC1 will be like...H2V Pics PLZ.

 • I am aswell, but since I only have an Nvidia 5200 FX (128mb AGP) It's already maxed with Vista. It dosn't handle bad with the aero turned off, but I havn't tried any other games. ...other than that ink ball thing, which is fun. **Goes to try and install some games** ...Comes back to learn he lost his halo CD key.

 •
Posted by: Coljnr9 Its my understanding that Vista isn't done yet, and that only beta 2 is avaliable with RC1 to come in the next month. I wonder what Bungie is testing H2V on then...?
I'm a beta tester for Vista. The OS they gave me is capable of running games, in fact, it was better than when I was using XP Pro... well, provided your video card is equiped with a driver that is compatible. Since it's in the beta stage, I find that a compatible and completely functional driver is hard to come by at this point.

 • ...Can we have a screen shot? Otherwise, that was sweet! I'm looking forward to Vista, and H2V. My computer needs a little video card upgrade for the whole thing though. To Trayze: I don't expect to see any new content for Halo 2, as Bungie is really busy with Halo 3. MAYBE, if anything a disc with a new weapons group and objects would come out before Halo 3. But that is unlikly aswell, because it would draw sales away from Halo 3, people would just settle for Halo 2, and wait for a price cut. [Edited on 8/22/2006]

 • I've heard rumors that there will be new maps, and possibly new weapons and vehicles in vista...just wondering if they were true and if maybe those new treats would be available to xbox gamers via a disk like the last maps, or xbox live

 •
Posted by: t3heford Will any tweaking be done to halo 2, like weapon balance, and whatnot, or is it just going to be a copy and paste port? (I hope the latter isn't how its going to be)
Whatever tweaking there will be, it has been done already. So your tense is wrong. Very cool, I can't pawn on a dumb controller with candy-color buttons anyway. Now I can pawn with bump maps, lighting, shinyness, grunts, and a keyboard!!!
