Fellow Halo 2 forum members, Since I've been detracting topics in this forum with my SLASO strategy obsessions which I haven't been able to put to rest, I'll post all my observations here and hopefully rid myself of this terrible burden that plagues me every night. First of all, if you would like to use this as a guide, please get acquainted with these terms: Single segment - means all in one try, no saves or deaths Segmented - means continuation from where I last saved and quit but it's absolute, from one game save Not segmented - means just strategies. Not really a run as it is a demonstration/test I have identified each level I have tested with one of these terms. LEVELS: CAIRO STATION - Not segmented Playlist To do this level single segment SLASO would be greater than or the equivalent of completing the entire Halo 2 campaign on Legendary without dying. _______ ORACLE - Segmented Playlist My most hated Halo 2 level... reduced to pebbles. _______ GREAT JOURNEY - ? [Data coming soon] _______ Halo 2 SLASO is the stuff of legend and I'm posting this here so I can revive the Halo 2 SLASO movement, which has strategic potential, and relieve myself of all this bloody temptation that has been torturing me since the early days... Happy Holidays! :D _______ OLD POSTS (this was originally a dedicated Cairo Station LASO strategy thread):
I'm now going to take a vacation from Halo games and the Halo forums this week. That much time away from Halo should restore my sanity and help me feel rejuvenated. Am I feeling it now? No. But someday, someone will ask me, "are you feeling it now SG?" and I'll be able to answer Yes. So... bye everyone!
Regarding hangar 1:

After 7 hours of non-stop cursing today (12 AM to 4 AM, 2 PM to 5 PM), I have developed a fine strategy. It used to take me 3-5 minutes (i.e. my first successful attempt) to clear the 1st hangar, but that was with Assassins turned off (Johnson was much more useful in distracting Covies and the other marines lived longer so they were helpful in distracting the Elites). With Assassins turned on, it became like Reach Legendary: Hell. H2 friendly AI > Reach friendly AI Only pros like MisterMonopoli can properly execute a cqc battle with those Covies (and get hit by a flying vehicle or scenery item and live). And since I'm not pro, I wanted to find an alternate way that was within our area of capability. And I did. The easiest way is to get Elites to take out swords and assassinate them 1 at a time as seen in the featured video. Also, near the end, something unexpected happened. The damn door blows up... while I still have 1 Elite remaining! If this was single segment, I would have had a heart attack right there.
Out of 47+ attempts, only about 15 were nearly or completely successful. Johnson must be pushed into the room or he'll disappear if you go too far from him (this applies anywhere actually). Grunts can send Johnson flying all over the place which is why they must be headshotted asap. So it is best to push him down after killing all the Grunts (untested but may turn out better as noted). Sword Elites can push Johnson through the walls and he'll be gone forever. That dual wielding Elite is extremely dangerous and smart + unusually responsive. Difficulty: 10/10, 8.5/10 with Assassins off
Regarding hangar 2:
I once thought this was impossible to do unless you jumped in there and had a brawl with the Covies. But now I think I've got a solution. My current strategy:
-headshot all Grunts (and forget about Johnson, only using him for infinite ammo through ally swap glitch) -Stick as many Elites as possible to get them to take out swords (or at least make them go into melee only mode where they don't shoot their rifles). First rearrange these 2 crates. Knock the small one off the ledge and move the big one next to the other one). Then get behind it, cloak, move a bit forward so you can see an Elite, and throw a plasma at him, repeat -when you return to 1st hangar for plasmas, if they aren't on the ground level but on the ledge, you don't have to go up there. You can just go under the plasma grenades and jump to pick them up -lure sword Elites 1 at a time to the room (the one with the human turret) for an assassination opportunity (tested and it seems plausible)
If all sword Elites here can be lured one at a time and assassinated, then this isn't so bad. Difficulty: 8/10 (inconclusive) Update: Yep, getting them to pull out swords seems to be the answer. I got the Goldie and his buddies to spawn. :D
[Edited on 12.26.2011 4:39 AM PST]
Posted by: womyfts Gulp......SG, now I can say that I do know you pain when the game JUST SCREWS YOU! I went for the attempt at the bomb room to complete my no die run, had three elites down and was very excited! I went to the back of the bomb room where the marine is and was looking to get some elevation, I was having a hard time locating the remaining elites and thought there might be a good perch up there to spot them from. Great Idea huh? I got myself up onto the back end of MAC gun loading structure, jumped back down when I saw the MAC gun machinery moving and looked things over, thinking that might not be a safe place. I watched the mechanism work for a few minutes, and decided that it comes no where near the back of the structure and deemed it safe......I jump back up, zoom my view to see what I can see, spot two of them behind a container that got moved by a nade toss and................WHAM, next thing I know my body is flying OUTSIDE the station and I AM DEAD! I said aloud, WHAT THE F--U--CK JUST HAPPENED? I paused the game, then let it continue to watch my final death spiral in space......reached over to my ex-box and turned the power off......DISMAY! By the way, SG, the tracking of an overcharge only works on a visible target, when assassins is active you can only score a hit with an OC when it is a straight line shot and the target does not move out of the way. It will not track if they are fully cloaked. All of those shots I do that way are on unsuspecting long distance targets. Half of the time they dont see the OC coming their way, half of the time they move. Hence the need for all of those extra PP's going in, to make sure I had more than ample firepower for closer range shots that would likely be dodged.
Praise be the Forerunners! That's very comforting to read. So many BS things happen and the agony and the misery but I always come back. Either I love pain or this Halo simply offers way more than the other ones. I'm sorry to hear that. I tend to stay away from that thing because the Elites will get you. I've had sword Elites pounce me several times in that area. Oh right. I almost forgot. Did you try making it so that you only have a body part in view (i.e. Elite's arm sticking out)? Then they never see you. Works every time afaik. Btw I got the Heretic leader to the top of The Arbiter in sp. That has been done before right?

I am preparing my last Halo 2 (and possibly Halo series) contribution before I settle down for peaceful gameplay with no fuss. Expect videos, screenshots, and all sorts of mind blowing data very soon!! This will be extremely extensive that it will surpass the extreme data collections that I have previously posted in extremely extreme manners: H2 LASO, Councilors army, H3 Mega AI collection. Soon, you will all have your very own Halo 2 megabattle to play with.

OK, so I restarted AGAIN, and I heard a piece of dialogue I have never ever seen reported! Opening battle, and one of the marines lines is.... Kick em in the NUTS! I damn near fell over laughing! I stopped immediately to post this! What a riot this game can be, even after how many years of playing it?

Update. I'm sorry to announce this but I am done with Halo 2 (and Halo as a series). It's not worth it. I play each one that I can access extensively but they all result in the same thing: disappointment and agony. Even H3, my starter Halo game. The crate climbing, the splatter, the AI disappearing, the AI being killed off by the game, the AI making saving throws. It's too unbearable!! Yesterday, I raged like hell because I spent hours carefully arranging supply cases and bringing in Heretics and when I finally got outside to get in the Banshee, no cp. Not even during the aerial fights. And even before this, I encountered various unpleasant things like Heretic Elites killing themselves while leaning against an object (of course I quickly resolved it by tipping over supply cases and if necessary, putting the objects against pillars that they're fond of). But these are merely the same experiences I experienced years ago when I was glitching H3. Bungie has disappointed me greatly. Sorry guys, but until Halo 4, I'm pretty much done with Halo 2 and the others. It's time to retire. I was going to upload my perfected The Arbiter Heretic AI collection setup (the last part) with the result (several fights). But several complications and disappointments have made me realize it's pointless. I gave up on the Elite ally because the room I put him in is no place to fight the Heretics (and to go back for him is just a waste of time. Also, he doesn't stand much of a chance since he really can't kill much). I also lost my game save with the Heretic leader retained in my raging and it is freaking hard to replicate it because even if I surprise him, he still goes in the Banshee. Also, I lost my videos that showed me herding the damn bastards. I'm not going to bother trying it again because it's not worth it. Carbines and Needlers. Enemies that like to get close and personal. Hardly any cover. This is the only scripted megabattle in Halo 2 afaik and there's no value in it at all! :'( Hate to say it, but I can't stand H2's AI anymore. Or the physics or cps. GJ Councilors collection - Failed miserably to successfully execute a long lasting battle between them and Tartarus because of certain flaws in H2 Vista and because of the ridiculous kill barrier on the bottom platform The Arbiter Heretic AI collection - Failed. Could only use 1/3 of the map for the battle. Outskirts AI collection - Failed. I.e. couldn't stop the 3 marines from disappearing. GJ AI collection - Somewhat successful but failed at getting the Hunters there unscathed. Still can't get them to jump over to Tartarus' platform without them dying.
Posted by: womyfts AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! This Cairo no deaths attempt (without Johnson) with Black Eye, Sputnik, Catch, Envy, Assassins and Thunderstorm is driving me nuts! I finally developed enough patience and refined the strategies to get through both hangers on the last attempt. The damn jet pack elites scattered into abnormal spots and I bought the farm. Damnit! I thought I had it good all the way to the bomb room once I got passed the second hanger. No such luck! New strategies for first hanger: Using the initial doorway and stair area until all of the grunts are dead is definately the way to go. Once they cannot kill your shields with nade tosses the elites are a matter of waiting for them to settle down, and choose one that isnt facing you. You can noob combo that guy, as an elite not facing you will not dodge an overcharge heading his way in that hanger. Once they are thinned out to a scant three or four left you can safely go pick up some grenades to get the less cooperative ones to die. Typically the last two you have to melee to get some shield back, as there is nothing else to melee for health like turrets and such. The second hanger is actually easy. I found out that you can noob combo pretty much any elite standing around down by the spot that they land in when exiting the boarding craft. They tend not to move around much. The last attempt I didnt even have to leave from the entrance to the hanger at all until I had thinned everything out to the last 2 elites. Those I went for assassinations on. Darn near bought it on the armory part, one of the two elites that is in the actual armory part FOLLOWED me down the stairs! I damn near had a heart attack, I have never seen one come down, EVER. That damn Thunderstorm skull really makes them act in much more aggressive ways at times, very unpredictable. He nearly wasted me but I was able to barely get back around a corner before I met my maker. Got through the rest fairly easily, being patient, then off the jet pack guys and that was it. VERY BUMMED! Guess I will just have to start over, AGAIN. This makes it about eighty attempts now, beginning to hope that we will lose power!
Posted by: Grumpy1 I just got the skull on the Stacker CP, so the 1 in 7 was still active. I wonder if you could go through the whole level and the go back and get it (not that I would want to)? Now I'm set, 9 Marines to start (including Johnson and the Pelican turret dude). So...9 + 10 (Hog Marines) + 1 (by the RL) + 3 at the Scarab spawn. 23 total if none deload lol. Next step after the collections..win the fight without killing. Holy crap, I think I can make the skull spawn every time I want, any time! I must do some more testing pronto!
Yay! Maybe I might try a OS collection after all. Have you tried getting them interested in vehicles (simply get the marines in the vehicle, then get them out, get the next bunch in, get them out, repeat until they're all chasing you and then drive off? Then they might not deload? Every time?! Anytime?!! TEST!! TEST!!! Btw I just got back from The Arbiter. The collection is a pain in the ass to manage, mainly because they delete scenery items!! 0_0 There's too many of them. But I got it. I finally got the cp with Heretic boss, a bunch of Heretics, and an ally Elite who I made invincible by modding (and can undo anytime). I made a setup with several supply cases, moved weapons into the room tons of plasma pistols (not just for the noob combo, which now can kill enemies but because I modded the plasma pistol to work like the H1 plasma pistol so it's uber powerful), plasma rifles (gave it the stun ability but I don't think it works other than making enemies stumble back), and needlers as well as a fuel rod gun, a spare sword, a Sentinel beam, carbines, etc.) and I only lost a few Grunts in the process (edit: I also lost 1 Elite but that was because he went outside with me and I was trying to block him with the Banshee...). IIRC, that's the one that starts the randomizer.
Yup, however, sniper alley stops the randomizer. Once you trigger sniper alley and get the CP the skull will be there or not and will never change no matter how many times you restart. If you restart on a CP before the sniper alley the skull will still have a 1 in 7 chance to respawn so you can keep restarting until the skull appears.
What about the cp that you get where the Goldie spawns? Or is that the same one as the saving Stacker part? Also, does dying 5 times to revert cp work in H2 for Xbox? Does it make a difference or is that also restarting?
Where is the Goldie spawn CP? Yeah, you can revert but not on some CP's. I've never been able to revert out of the sniper alley CP. Edit: Wow, something strange just happened. i was restarting the box over and over, still hoping to get the skull on the save where I went to Stacker first. So I went all the way back to the Pelican and spawned sniper alley and as I was making my way to the skull the enemies vanished from my motion tracker. This always happens when the skull is going to appear, the enemies vanish. Anyway, when I got to the skull room the skull did not appear and when I went over to sniper alley all the enemies were gone. This is highly unusual for me. [Edited on 01.02.2012 12:14 AM PST]
Posted by: Grumpy1 If I move 3 Elites at once (Hog) then I use another Hog, then that is slow but 3 at a time makes up for it. Ghosts are no prob with a Hog. The CvT battle sounds epic.
I see. Yes it does. If only Tartarus didn't disappear. :( I think bringing Tartarus on the Banshee to the hall has interesting side effects. I think that it can either end the level (triggering the cutscene) or just make Tartarus disappear. On the other hand, The Arbiter collection is much better now as I have done a lot of testing and I've figured out which enemies are freeroaming and which enemies should be killed or ignored (because they are stuck where they spawn): -the 2 turret Grunts -the 2 Grunts that spawn in the room right before the room with the Sentinel Beam Heretics -the 2 Grunts that spawn at the end of the second to last room before the Heretic boss (I think they're sleeping when they spawn) -the 3 Grunts and 2 Heretics that spawn in the room directly before the Heretic boss appears I've got 2 saves: one where me and my modded Elite (I can easily un-mod him) ally kick Heretic ass (and all the non-freeroaming enemies have been killed off) and one where I got the Heretic leader but I have yet to get all the Covies in the room and the Elite.
Posted by: Sliding Ghost
Posted by: Grumpy1 Crap, I forgot to watch it after I was done filming. I just watched it now, hilarious and really cool at the same time. They blindly move back and forth with you heh heh. Top notch collection my friend. So no, it's not old seeing as how that's the most AI on that level that's ever been collected. Elite movement; I could keep them in vehicles, they won't fire at me while pushing them with a Hog and if they do they are so close it won't really harm you.
Thanks! Yay!! I'm going to try to get all the Grunts this time (with the exception or 2 stubborn ones). Also, my new years Councilors vs. Tartarus battle is underway right now. Is it easy moving them or is it slow, grueling a.k.a pain in the ass?
If I move 3 Elites at once (Hog) then I use another Hog, then that is slow but 3 at a time makes up for it. Halo 2, I'm sorry I ever got mad at you. YAHHOO!! I did it!! I got all the Heretics (minus 2 Grunts. Edit: also, 3 fuel rod gun Grunts and the sword Elite), allies blocked, access to the hangar room, and the Heretic boss!!! I didn't go through the window. I just kept lunging at him and then he did that surprise animation and just stood there. Now I can have a Heretic family photo shoot!!! :D:D:D:D:D I tried to bring the sword Elite but he's just too hazardous. The allies must be blocked. Leave them alone and they'll kill some Heretics. I killed the fuel rod Grunts so I could get more ammo for the fuel rod gun. Trying to fight all those Heretics is crazy. I need something to do heavy damage. I also found a good position for firefight style combat. I'll get a tutorial and demonstration video up asap so you guys can try it (and do better than me). [Edited on 01.01.2012 9:22 AM PST]
