New Bungie.net no good....

.....call me blasphemous if you must. I admit I love the look, I love the new stuff, listened to Marty's stuff and wow. But The Underground is so freakin' cluttered. Maybe it will slow down, but I can't find my posts, or more importantly to me, the responses to them. I can't find posts made by people I've learned to respect and enjoy, like Rip, Mak, JoeyD, and many others. On top of that there are just threads upon threads of useless crud...ok, not so much useless...but the same thing over and over. I LOVED the old format of forums, and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but if this kind of thing keeps up, I'll feel really alienated. Everyone belongs to Bungie and it's so awesome to see everyone band together like this, but it is seriously cluttered and impossible to navigate. With only 10 posts a page, I have to sift through 27 pages to find the post I'm looking for, IF I can remember what it was. I found it funny that somebody on the 27th page of posts said that if we kept this rate up we'd have 50 threads and a hundred by the end of the week. The second day we have almost 270, and I'm sure more before Day 3. This organization issue needs to be addressed or it is gonna bring down a lot of long time forum posters. Don't flame me, I love The Underground and want it to work, properly. Just trying to make this Column strong.

  • On what you say about the forums, I agree. Here in The Septagon I can't find any of my post's a little while after I make them. They should make different areas within a forum for different things. For example there should be like and intelligent section or whatever but it's all messed-up, the way their listing changes depending on how many replies they get, i prefer the chronological listing based on when the original post was made.

  • Yes, good idea Puma, I'm gonna go out on a limb and hope the Bungie Gods read this and are amused.... The Underground - four main topic areas with topics under each Halo:CE -Campaign -Multiplayer -Tricks Halo:PC -Campaign -Multiplayer -Tricks and Mods Halo 2 -Technical Discussions (graphics, lighting, bandwidth, 5.1, geek stuff) -Campaign -Multiplayer -Halo 2 Dreams (what people want to see in H2 and not) -Halo 2 Futures (face it, people are gonna talk about Halo PC) Bungie -Ego Inflator -History -WDO (World Domination Organization) The Underground itself could be a forum for Bungie selected officials (I elect Rip Saw and Makavelli and Mrsmiley as three who post worthy topics and information and bring together all, apparently, several kazillion Bungie fans ), and for Bungie employees who wanna voice some fan based comments or just let us know what they are having for lunch. • Maybe later on they will put topics in the forum to help with the organization.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys. We are definitely continuing to evaluate our site and make improvements and enhancements where we can. Bungie.net will continue to evolve over the next several weeks and months. We're already working on some changes to improve the navigation and presentation in our forums. Right now we're monitoring the site, seeing how it's working, seeing where we can tune and tweak things and the forums are an integral part of the experience. The idea of adding a forum for "intelligent" people is amusing. Who would want to hang out in the non-intelligent one? =) People will always go to the forums where other people are, where the people who "know the most" about Halo and Bungie are. I've also noticed on plenty of other sites that have a dozen different forums that most people don't stay on topic, they gravitate to the forum with the most activity. We can probably get away with a few more forums, and we're reviewing these types of options. (though a special forum just for employees and Ripsaw, Mr Smiley and Makavelli may not make the cut =)

  • ...as always. Awesome Sketch, I am glad to hear that I didn't lose my B.net, just revamping, a rebirth if you will. I still like my idea for an upfront viewable forum for employees and selected respected members of The Underground, no replies, just on topic comments from people who are always on topic and courteous anyway, forum directors if you will.

I really don't want to see any exclusive forum clubs. That would really annoy me and any other normal(but not quite good enough) forum member. I say lets just get the topic count per page up to 25. People will be less likely to make duplicate topics. I'm sure a lot of users think any topic past page one is dead. Heh.

Awwwe come on! ;P Seriously though, that really isn't a good idea. If you wanna hear what I have to say, just come to my chapter lol! I honestly haven't found a lot to complain about with this forum. I already know the posts displayed on the index page is being upped, so that's no biggie. I love the fact that the active posts get displayed up front. I really have no complaints!

  • Look for the monkey dude avatar. Maybe it'll be me with words of wisdom. :-P The Rip Saw's word of wisdom for the day: You can cut the mold off the edge of cheese and eat the good stuff on the inside. Don't try this with shredded cheese.

  • Ok, so this may not have been this bowling balls shining moment of thought. Since nobody likes it, away with it. Avast ye scarabs! Yes Rip, the usefulness of you Monkey Dude in tracking you is unbelievably astounding. But I'm glad that Bungie is all about upgrading. This is only V. 1.0!

Could you write that in English, or better yet, American English?

  • Well, I don't know neanderth- I mean US English, but here's what I tried to make of it: "This may not have been absolutmind's (bowling ball = 343 GS avatar) greatest idea. Since nobody seems to like the new B.net (an untruth; I love it!), they should get rid of it. That is, go back to the old b.net. "Yes, I agree with you, oh Saw which Rips, your Webmaster avatar's usefulness in assisting my keeping track of you knows no bounds. "I am happy that Bungie will be upgrading the site: this is only b.net version 1.0, so I the updated versions will have probably fixed these problems." Was that helpful? - Reiginko

  • Well, I meant away with my Underground forum for Bungie employees and certain respected users. I love the new B.net, but there are things that NEED to be fixed. Other than that, that was pretty much a dead on translation.

  • What you must understand is that there will always be things that need to be fixed so I try to look at the good thing that have been made and improve on those.

  • Honestly, I think this release of B.net was pretty damn polished. I mean, I have sent in about 3 bugs so far, but that isn't bad. Overall, the functunality is great for a 1.0 release!

  • Search was a planned feature but didn't make it in this release. It needs lots of testing and such to ensure it doesn't kill performance, yet gives you the right results. It will be added eventually. Posts/topics per page also was going to be increased, but a bug in the forum code also prevented this to be fixed. We also plan on fixing this, maybe at the same time as adding search, maybe before or after.

  • To go back to watching forum posts, I know that Beathseda (morrowind) has a speical little option in there forum/proflie set up where you can 'watch' your post. So that when you log into your profile your favorite topics are right there and you can just click on them. I found it very useful. Privat eforum clubs? Isn't that what chapters are for?
