Myspace boycotts gasoline

Some guy in my economics class said that on myspace, there was a day planned to boycott gas. I thought that was the most stupid idea that is a waste of time and is not going to accomplish anything. My economics teacher said that even if there was a successful boycott, it will only be for a day and it's not going to affect the oil industry in the long run. Your gonna have to give in sooner or later if you rely on a car to get around. I think this boycott is absolutely stupid and a day is not going to do anything to bring gas prices down. We need the gasoline more than the oil industries need our money. This contributes nothing to the community, it just gives a day off to the gas station. This is the most meaningless way to protest against big business. A better solution to this would to drive gas efficient cars. Toyota and Honda have some pretty good gas saving cars. Or maybe putting in money to develope an alternative fuel that can be used economically one day, such as hydrogen power. Any other solutions guys? [Edited on 5/3/2006]

 • Hey, I got a solution. Besides hydrogen fuel cells. That will take a while. You know what this solution is called? ETHANOL{/i]. Don't say we can't do it. Brazil did it....

This thread will probably get locked. Ethanol is already being discussed and is being put into gasoline.

 • Ok, agreed, myspace and xanga both in my opinion suck. Back on topic though. Cars should be able to run on pure ethanol. Though it isnt has high performing, it is cleaner and cheaper.

 • We can't use ethanol because oil industries are paying to keep alternative fuel supplies off the streets for as long as possible. They're all gonna die when oil runs out completely.

 • Boycotting oil...pssh. Without oil, the American way of life as we know it would crummble. Cars need gasoline, gasoline is needed to power the turbines that make electricity. Gas is needed to fuel the machines that create almost every appliance on the market. You can trace almost anything back to the consumption oil. Quite the dilemna. We'll consume oil until we destroy the planet or run out of oil to guzzle, which will lead to wars in the East for oil and the death of the American way of life. [Edited on 5/3/2006]

 • Look, oil is important. But now, each time we fill up at an exxon/mobile station, we are paying for their CEO's half a billion i think retirement plan.

 • That is a really old bulletin, I saw it a while ago... but I agree it is useless (though boycotting usually works), and thats not even taking into consideration the average age is 15-18, so not all probably even have a car.

 • I think the best but impossible, is to make cars to take dioxide of carbon and we would get the cleanest air, so we make the air clean and we drive. i know impossible.

It'd be very bad for most cars out there today if they ran on ethanol completely because most people do not have the new E85 cars so most engines aren't built for that.

 •
Posted by: themasteroftheu you no i got a question, why are you having a conversation with your economics teacher?
Because he is a very interesting person and his life is alot more interesting than yours. He graduated from Pepperdine University, which is a very good business school. He even started his own business, worked as a police man, and did alot of other interesting things. He makes economics very interesting at times, you can really learn how business increase their profits. I plan to go into business, so I take economics seriously and learn as much as I can from it. And he's rich too, I can tell he is since he can sail around the world in his boat. Seriously, I hate people like you who think school is boring and don't take it seriously. Or look down on people who appreciate education. Like the people in high school that go to beer parties like all the time and never finish homework or study for tests and think a C is a good enough grade. That's why you work for $5 an hour at Pizza Hut with others who wasted their lives. Or if you are still in school, that will be your future. It's not that the teachers are boring, but you are not smart enough to find education interesting. Don't you see why your type always ends up at the bottom, your jobs require very minimum education. While the ones who study and take school seriously, they get the good jobs and succeed in life. My economics teacher told me that people with high school diplomas suffer the greatest unemployment rate than people who graduated from college and have a degree. Oh ya, I'm pretty sure your too lazy to attempt to read this whole essay too. And now your going to ask me why I took the time to write all this. [Edited on 5/3/2006]

 • I didn't read all of this thread because I am a bit inebriated. But I did read the words "corn' and 'ethanol' so I decided to submit my rant. It is stupid that we are making Ethanol out of corn. It first off takes a huge amount of corn to create a gallon of gas, and corn ethanol is still somewhat pollutant. Sugar Can ethanol is a much better alternative, you still have to use a large amount of sugar cane to make a gallon, but the rate at which Sugar Cane reproduces is much much more efficiant than corn, and Sugar cane ethanol has almost zero pollutant when used as a gas....there is the end of my rant. Have a good night.

 • Any sort of action started on myspace can't be respected. If myspace boycotts gasoline, I'm going to have to buy a tanks worth and burn it for no reason. I drive something with a 1.6 liter engine in it. They can raise the price of gas to $6 per gallon, and I would be happy. Less people would be on the road, and I would get even better mileage since there would be less stop and go garbage. It takes me an hour to drive 22 miles to school, and it takes an hour and a half to go back. [Edited on 5/4/2006]

 • I'm surprised no one here mentioned biodiesel most people who use it make thier own fuel in a shed in there back yard and they get the supplies (used oil) for free from chinese restaurants.

 • So long as gas is cheaper than water or milk, I don't see the point of complaining.

 • Littlerat I don't know where you buy your milk at but here it runs 2.99 a galon and gas is 3.09 a gallon so there is your big point about it.
