SYMMETRICAL ARENA ("SYMM") - A symmetrical arena designed primarily for Slayer and Team Slayer for up to 8 players (4 vs. 4 / 8-player FFA).
I actually have a question concerning this bit. In my forging, I have encountered quite a few bugs as concerns item placement and gametype symmetry options. The main issue about this is the fact that Slayer no longer counts as a symmetrical gametype--either in FFA or Teams (any item whose symmetry option is set to "Symmetrical" will not appear in a game of Slayer). Needless to say this has me fairly confused, as I had always understood gametype symmetry as whether or not all players shared a common objective (e.g. FFA Slayer: slay anything that moves; Team Slayer: slay anyone on a team that is not your own; Multi-Flag: capture the other team's flag; etc.). My question is twofold: (1) what distinguishes a Symmetrical Arena map from a Team Slayer map, and (2) does this mean that the symmetry options surrounding slayer (and some of the other gametypes) will be corrected? Further, are users permitted to submit multiple entries (after a cursory read-through, I could find nothing prohibiting such)? In any case, I'm already hard at work on a map, and look forward to seeing what else the community produces for this purpose.
Posted by: asb116 Just out of curiosity, is there a place to post maps and such where people can comment and give criticism other than just your file share? Maybe a forum or some such thing?
In fact, there are several! If you visit XForgery or ForgeHub, you can post your map there and get the experienced folks to help you out with your map design, spawn and weapon placement, and other similar things. It's been a while since I was on ForgeHub, but I'll admit they have some really good forging tutorials. XForgery tends to have a slightly higher caliber in the main user base, though, and brings that caliber to a much more accessible level. You should check 'em out. ^_^ [Edited on 10.14.2010 6:47 PM PDT]
Posted by: Crooshing Guys complaining about it being US only just think about how many maps they're going to have to look through that's just US. Now imagine if they had to look through every map submitted by the community on a global scale. Im not sure how big bungie is right now but i doubt they could do that.
It's our right to complain as part of the community. Personally I'd call it constructive criticism. Other countries are a huge source of revenue for Bungie, i'm sure. In a scenario of looking over a few more maps versus keeping your paying customers happy, well, i'd say it's an easy decision. Just sayin'. I'm sure they have a reason for why it is only a US contest but at the same time i'm sure it can't be that hard to incorporate out of country residents in some way. As most people have said here, a lot of us don't care about the prize, we just want to showcase our maps like everyone else! Just out of curiosity, is there a place to post maps and such where people can comment and give criticism other than just your file share? Maybe a forum or some such thing? Each Entrant must be an individual who is a legal resident of the United States.... sigh This is one of those things that is getting in your way of taking over the world Bungie.
-
Part of it may be the legal requirements. Also, it is somewhat probable that there will be other versions of the contest that is aimed at other countries

Remake should have been a category. People love good remakes, this would have been a good incentive to see some amazing ones emerge.
-
Bungie................We canadians also spend money on your games. If you would extend the contest to Canada I would be happy. But that would also not be fair so Bungie you really should make this a global thing. Oh and if it's global then that means: more maps, more things to put into mathcmaking, less work for you guys in making map packs. It's a win win situatuion!
-
I am also sorry for the Canadians, so not fair.
-
Does the map have to be created during that specified time or could I enter a map that I've already made?
-
Sounds fun, and finally gives me the initiative to finally go and forge a map. I'll give it a shot.
-
Oh Come on...a Country Limit? Even If I dont get a Console out of it, ill trade that to showcase my maps. ~B2
-
If only I had the patience.
-
us only how fair is that? i purchased a console and a legendary edition with my collection of halo reach and I live in canada this is not fair to us and i think that bungie should reconsider. I think its kinda funny that bungie dosent think canada's worth their time .. [Edited on 10.14.2010 3:30 PM PDT]

Sounds great to me, I just the new 360 but I guess this contest will not hurt. (I can't wait to see all the maps made)
-
On behalf of Canada, we are disappointed. I would suggest you add somewhere more clear that this is a US only competition, to avoid further misery.

I gotta know if I can supply my own gametype for Invasion, because my map won't make a lot of sense if I can't... both narrative and gameplay-wise... but I could probably cope. Also, if I read the rules correctly and Alt-F has not failed me in that respect, I can enter one map in multiple gametype categories, as long as I supply the video, screenshots, and entry email for each. So, I'm basically limited by what I can fit in 6 or 24 slots...
-
US only? Such a let down. I just started to make a map and I am disappointed by this :(
-
Why the hell can't they make it world wide and make the prize lots of gamer points? Having your map on Matchmaking would be prize enough anyway. Everyone already has an Xbox. What a stupid prize.
-
Hey so are we allowed to supply our own gametypes, I am doing an invasion map and really I just want to change the loadouts. Certain crap only makes sense in certain situations right?
-
dammit D:< US ONLY D:< D:< D:< so unfair also wtf does it mean by sponsor were do we get a sponsor to sponsor us
-
awwww I live in UK.... =( well, can't wait to see some community maps in MM, always liked playing BUNGIE VS WORLD because of the community maps.
-
@iTz KaRNaGe III "Entries may not be submitted for more than one category..." @ myself lol Entrants may submit more than one map entry (including to multiple categories) but each Entrant may win no more than one prize. [Edited on 10.14.2010 2:16 PM PDT]
-
I know that the article said enter one map into one of seven categories, but can you enter a map in more than one category?
-
Wow, there's a lot of potential gamers in CAN and EU that would make this much more challenging. Good thing I live in the U.S. I read the rules, and what stood out is that a map cannot be submitted in more than 1 category, but please help me clarify, we can submit more than one map, correct?

Can't wait to see the results of this! Great contest guys! real generous!
