• Right now, to make fusion possible, they need more energy to get to that temperature and everything else involved, then they get out of fusion. Because of that, it only uses energy, and is a complete waste. However, with better methods and technology it would theoretically be possible to obtain enormous amounts of energy from it. And yeah, I also heard about that skateboard car from GM. Pretty cool idea, if you ask me.

 •
Posted by: Smoke604
Posted by: goweb Fusion wouldn't be that cheap. The process is a costly one.
From what I've read, the main reason fusion is expensive is because of the amount of energy required to maintain the required level of magnetic strength inside a tokamak to force the atoms close enough with enough energy to obtain fusion. Over the years the energy output of experimental fusion reactors has increased, but has not yet passed this limit. Once this does happen however, we will have reactors that can power themselves, and the cost caused by the use of an external source of power will bhe greatly reduced. Then we'll have a cheap and environmentally friendly source of energy for everybody....woo!
The initial process of starting up the reactor will cost bucket loads of cash, but after that couldn't the fusion reactor itself power the magnet containment field?

Newsflash: this is the internet. You don't get chances until you've proven that you can perform. Starting a topic but stopping short of saying anything except "Start spewing" is not performing.
You, on the other hand, took his side to ridicule me[...]
I didn't ridicule you. I ridiculed your futile attempt to try and sound intelligent. There's a difference.
[...]and make yourself look intelegent.
Actually, I was trying to make myself look like a big ass. It looks as if I succeeded.
You thought that by joining the "winning side" you could gain something.
Yeah, winning my gold medal in Internet Arguing for the Special Olympics.
You were wrong.
Until I replied to this, spending my precious time to refute your mindless and childish accusations, you were right. You would have won the gold medal instead of me.

Obbiquiet gave you no more of a chance than ajenteks in my mind. If anything, you made Obbi try to join the winning side when you stepped up to ajenteks. Naturally I have no quarrel with either Obbiquiet or ajenteks (not to say that I'm not unhappy with what either of them did), I'm just stating what it was that I saw. • As was stated on the last page a hydrogen powered car cannot power a house, but a larger version of the fual cell can be stored underground underneeth a shead that would hold machines to convert rain water to hydrogen to power the fual cell. And soler panel shingles could colect energy to power the machines in the shead. This would be a totaly self suficiant system. NOTE-Original idea from Pop-Sci magazine.

 • I have the strange idea that the History of the Battletech universe will show what will happen. Cheap power will lead to an economic redevelopment, be it one that leads to unpleasant circumstances or good outcomes are as unpredictable as the human behaviour complex. I think who would most object to cheap efficient clean power would be the corporate industrial companies, and well other groups that 'can't talk about at these forums. ;) I don't think the Human race is *Mature* enough to take the leap into fusion... All I can say is once we are truly ready; a golden age of new technologies and wonder will be at our fingertips.

 •
Posted by: Cool_Cow Never heard of that term.
It's a modular car frame that is batter/fuel cell powed. Each of the 4 weels are independently driven by an internal electric motor. A car body is snapped on top. The body is made from modular panels. Oh, and this is in no way related to fussion tech.

 • The one ford is making can be fitted to just about every type of car they have made. Edit: You have never heard of the new car? Dang lol and I am not reffering to it as a power plants use but Hydrogen can be used as energy so it may happen. [Edited on 7/28/2004 12:30:59 AM]

 • They create water instead of Exhaust, now that would be cool. The only problem is how they design them. Why not use the old design, instead of something no one likes.. I mean that electric car they made looked retarded. [Edited on 7/28/2004 12:28:37 AM]

 • Guess what? We are losing jobs already due to outsourcing. We shouldn't hold ourselves back just to keep some jobs. Hold back the progress of science and humanity. Another bonus, my town would be dead. Everyone around here relies on the oil fields. The only reason most people are here is because of the oil and gas rigs. Lately there has been a huge boom because of the wells. Then I would move, and not have to be around all the shady oil field workers (its a stereotype, who cares?). But I guess we got along fine before all the wells got put up.
