Would the abolishment of timezones be so bad...?

I'm sure everyone who doesn't live on the west coast of America has been slightly annoyed with timezones before, because of this website... But what would happen if we just got rid of them and everyone just used Greenwich Mean Time? You would never have to set your watch when you went into another timezone. I would actually understand what time I posted on this forum. The USA could get out of bed at about 12pm everyday... and we wouldn't have "post what time it is" threads. There don't seem to be any drawbacks at all. Do there?

  • No, abolishing the timezones would be stupid, your time would no longer be an accurate representation of the actual time of the day. And confusion you say? You mean you can't ad 5 to a number? What i would like is the timezone labelling changed, instead of every timezone having 2 or 3 different labels, it should all be GMT +/-, like GMT -5 for the east coast of the US.

  • Daylight saving times annoy me as well. It gets dark at about 4pm now. No-one really agrees then? If you think about it, abolishing timezones is an excellent idea. They will still run in the background though, as New York won't wake up until 5 hours after London. Just the actual time itself will change, which will eliminate the confusion. ... and if Bungie take over the world, they can change the time as they wish. At the moment GMT rules.

  • Get rid of daylight savings time, the Uk should just stay in BST or GMT all the time, there's about a 15% increase in road accidents after the clocks change due to tired drivers, anyway, it only works for about 4 days.

  • I wouldnt mind, because the time would stay the same for me. Infact, id go so far to say thats a great idea as id like to see you all get pissed off about not knowing the time =D

  • That wouldn't work. It is not the same time here as it is in Hong Kong because the amount of daylight there is either more or less, so they need a time to match it. Without timezones, things around the world would be totally -blam!- up.

  • You want to abolish timezones because Bungie.net doesn't comply with your timezone? If anything, everyone should comply to their timezone. If we're going to take over the world, we have to be consistent.

  • It would be really confusing because noon anywhere is when the sun is directly overhead and without timezones it was hard when trains first started to travel regularly because there was no real way to set a national time, so they used timezones.

  • Yes, the Earth is tilted on an axis, and that axis puts some parts of the earth closer to the sun than others, producing seasons.

  • that would be weird-..earth would ahve a gigantic ring around it and then it would all turn dark at the same time, there would be no kissing under the sunset or waking up to a sunrise, i like it, and i dont mind i know the time zones already, i travel to much, and i play xbl...
