Extra Extra!: Spam Attack in the Near Future! Halo 2 is to blame!

Alrighty, alrighty don't move this post! It's not really Halo 2 related. It's more on the fact of Bungie... From what I have seen, once Halo 2 comes out EVERYONE (or a great deal of you) will buy it that week, go home and play it. I'm not too sure about the mods, where they live and when H2 comes out to their country, but it's on the same line..that's the problem. With most (or all) of the moderators out, who will protect these happy little fourms? Even if 1 or 2 mods come on that day the spam arrives. It's not a promise that they will be on all day (or night) to protect it. I know the trolls aren't the smartest thing in the world, but they have teamed up before...who's to say they won't do it again? I think to protect Bungie on that is to lock it down for a few days. Or get some "Mini-Mods" that could stand guard...etc. etc. etc. Keeping b.net safe, (with warnings!) VII Toast

 • Maybe it's me, but I think of spammers of poor people with a X68000 Pro sitting on their desk. They have no teeth too.

And, when we get finished playing it and start gracing the forums with our presence, we will just run the spammers and the spam threads out. It's that simple. They're just going to be wasting their time spamming on an empty forum.

 • Well, I won't be going on these forums until after I beat SP so nobody ruins the story for me.

 • Or just find the forum members not lucky enough to have it pre-ordered. (Amazing concept to grasp, but im sure there's hundreds.) Besides, I think the mods accepted some kind of responsibility when they became mods. And the ones who work with bungie have already played it for months, they won't need to disappear on Nov. 9th. • The whole board will be a mess from october 26th (the day the guide comes out) onward with spoilers and spam and general havoc that I will just not look.

 • The guide won't come out before the game as Bungie don't want any plot details to be revealed early (this is why preview and review code won't be sent to magazines before the release date).

 • First of all, I WILL not be on the internet for at least a straight week. I already spend 5 hours + a day on xbox live playing R63 and over 7 hours + a day on the net, but when H2 comes out I will be on there non stop. Here's my normal day from the aftermath of Halo 2: * 10 Hours +: on H2 * 4 Hours: sleep * 2 Hours: Food * 2 Hours: Computer * 1 Hour: Going to store to by more moution dew and cheese-its * 3 Hours: Worshiping Bungie.. I don't see how people will even be able to get though the day without H2.. I see Halo 2 leading the Xbox Live most played game list for 2 years like rainbow, only LONGER... Seriusly, if you don't have H2 on November 9th you are either: A. One of the suckers that bought the Deluxe Edition. B. Live in the UK (feal for ya guys...) C. One poor idiot.. D. T-wizzy (some people know him as the biggest n00b ever) - Trigun

 • I would doubt that that date is right. Bungie wouldn't do that, and if the date was put up before the release date was put out then the date probably isn't right.

 • You have a valid point that's why I won't go near anything that spoilers in it but people will still be here and the spam will come from all the fanboys that aren't able to play it or anyone that likes to tick people off in general. Remember early in june when we had those two guys that keep spamming the forums with lies and fake links and that was way before it would have come out. So Bungie should prepare it's self for it. Like that's giong to happen. Alright, I'll cut right to the point. The entire mod system is flawed. An attack in November 10 would be no worse than the almost weekly attacks we receive on the weekends. Once the weekend begins spammers know that they cannot be banned until the Bungie Employees return. Simply said, the mods need banning powers to fix the problem. Ah yes, recent developments at the Flood have left me with something more to say. There is another reincarnation of davestar over there (says so in his sig), even after the old one has been banned at least once. He is once again being an immature ass and troll, and yet he was not banned, and his spam topics have not been deleted. You know what this teaches spammers? That if they make a new name they get off the hook. [Edited on 7/20/2004 11:50:16 AM]

 • Now, which person in the flood has been spamming lately? Ah yes, Davester, Master Grunty, and RickJames/Lone Ranger. These guys have been around since the dawn of time it seems, and they won't go away. So anytime you feel the need to use these "new tools" you speak of, go ahead.

 • From what I hear is the oh-so-deadly IP banning :-p "Run spammers, run! Point lees taken, it is true that it is not going to be a big deal, just pointing to the help file. What if the spammers don't know about this idea? Hmmmmm, damn. I think I fed the trolls.....might want to close this down..gives people ideas, no?

 • Hey toast, your sig somehow lags up my computer- and I have a fairly fast one. Could you consider changing some of those characters that you have at the bottom of it? It would help when I'm scrolling down threads you've responded to.

Not that I could actually do anything against them. -Baerdog7 P.S. I have seen the some of the British Royal Guards move when I was in London a few years back. P.P.S. I've been gone for a month working at Camp Geronimo (Boy Scout camp in Arizona) and it is great to be back to a cable internet connection.
