What's on the outside of the universe?

Seriously, though? Whenever I look at the sky, I always wonder: what is on the outside of our cosmic bubble? The universe expands at a rate of around 1 trillion trillion trillion light-years per second. It would take one heckuva rocket engine to get to its end. But here's another random thought: compare the universe to a rubber band; when you pull it, it stretches. Like how our universe expands. ...But when you let go, it INSTANTLY snaps shut. My point is, if the universe were expanding, chances are its contraction would be around a 1000 times faster, so we'd never feel it. Back on track: what is on the outside of our universe? It's like a video game: there's an invisible wall. There is another side. But you cannot reach it. If you try, your character dies. It's impossible to imagine nothing on the outside of a barrier. What is outside the universe's boundary? What does that boundary look like? It freaks me out just thinking about it; like humanity isn't ever supposed to know the answer. Try it: try thinking of an "outside" to the universe. It will give you a headache. What's preventing us from imagining the outside of the universe???

 • I was reading an article yesterday, and it was talking about some scientist trying to discover the location of where the Big Bang occurred. Pretty dumb, and I wonder how long it will be before he realizes he's wasting his time.

 • if only we had an infinite probability drive............. anyway. what if our universe was just like a galaxy in an even bigger universe. soo basically what im saying is what if the universe isnt the biggest thing. and for the explanation for why we cant explain what would be at the edge of the universe is because we dont have the mental capacity to comprehend it. Thats how God made us. if we were able to comprehend no one would need God and so we would just do our own thing and just ignore Him. (sry for the religious part but it still is true)

 •
Posted by: A 343Johnny 117 I only read the first post, so I have no idea where this discussion's gone. I just wanted to say that I think beyond the universe is just empty space, for eternity. Now for those of you who believe in Heaven (I do,) I think empty space is Heaven. It just looks like a void because our eyes only see the physical realm, not spiritual. That's my input. ;)
heaven is the spirtial demesion(realm) most likely the 4th demesion, aka the abyss, the universe is a physical and mental bubble, on the outside surroding it, is the abyss, or so i think, and part of the abyss is absolute nothing. the first and second dimesion work together to make time, while the 3rd and 4th work together to make the physical realm.

 •
Posted by: Vitamin Zawaz
Posted by: TheMayaMC How hard is it to understand nothing? its just empty space, there's no wall, edge, or end to nothing.
It's harder than that. Try to imagine no color; I mean nothing, no black or white color. It is impossible. The human mind thinks with color all the time, be it blankness or darkness. It's more than just endless, wall-less, and edgeless. What does nothing look like? What would a human being do if he/she saw it? Would they go insane? What would it be like existing in nothing? Like someone said waaaaaaaaay earlier, nothing means ABSOLUTELY nothing; no vacuum, color, atoms, or even empty space. Empty space is something.
you took the words right out of my mouth.

 • It could be a loop...think of it as a rift in time. Maybe the universe is part of somethign but we cant leave it. think that if you go too far you end up going back.

 • Woah, where did the discusson go? I think there has to be something outside the universe, because if you think about it, the univrese is expanding, isn't it? Therefore it has to be expanding into something. If it was infinite, how could be detect if it was expanding? There has to be an edge which is expanding constantly, otherwise we would never know it was expanding. Like this: Count to infinity (the universe). Increase that number by one (universe expands). It's still infinity. Since we know the universe DOES expand, we can say that it's not infinite. Count to a big number. Add one. Now you have a bigger number. The universe is big but not infinite, letting it expand. So there has to be something out there. Maybe it's just nothing. Can you imagine nothing? I can't.

 • According to Albert, if you go in one direction in space and just keep going you will eventually come back to the orginal sopt so maybe the edge of the universe does not excist but you return to where you once were like an open plane sphere...if you can think of that...personally i would love to think that there are alot of hot women on the outside of the universe... Its also believed that eventually the universe will begin to shrink like a rubber band that spreads out too far and then springs back towarss the center...creepy thought. What would happen then? •
Posted by: D3rvish Wait..... How can the universe be expanding faster than the speed of light? Matter cannot go faster than light. What even denotes the difference between Universe and Not-universe? Is there some kind of "invisible wall" like you say? Or just matter and no matter.
It could go faster than the speed of light because we are unsure of whether or not the universe's boundaries are matter to begin with.
