I'm writing a required "brag sheet" for my high school's College Counselor (because she doesn't know any of the people she's going to be writing letters of recomendation for) and I've hit a dead end on the following part:
9. Describe your involvement in the community of Tucson, and beyond.
a. How have you contributed to the Tucson community?
b. What did you do for your community service? Tell exactly what the task involved. BE SPECIFIC. Did you continue past the 24-hour obligation?
c. Have you volunteered other than time required by (name of my high school deleted)?
d. Are you (or have you been) in Scouting? Give specific details.
e. Do you belong to a church or youth group? Explain activities and leadership.
f. How have the above experiences helped you to be a better person and/or given you skills which you can use in the future?
Screw that. Tucson is a dried up mudhole, and people who live here do so for one of three reasons:
1. They're old and rich and think the "dry heat" will slow down their aging.
2. It's better than their impoverished village in Mexico.
3. They grew up here and they're too unmotivated or attached to go somewhere better.
Now I can agree with reason 2 and part of 3, but none of them make for a very tight-knit community. People hate each other and stay in their houses to avoid constant sunburn. So how the hell am I supposed to contribute to that pile of crap? Tossing some more on? I don't know.
...-blam!- Tucson...
