Flood Relief

Hurricane Katrina has decimated New Orleans and surrounding towns along the Gulf coast. If you've taken a break from playing Halo 2 and watched the news lately then you've no doubt seen the horrible aftermath of this devastating storm. It's not often that we stray from topics related to Halo but in this case we felt the need to rally the members of the Bungie Underground Army to lend a hand to help those who have suffered through this disaster. What can you do to help? The American Red Cross is on the front lines providing shelter, food and recovery assistance to the thousands of people impacted by Katrina. You can help out by volunteering your time or making a monetary donation to support their efforts. More information can be found at the Red Cross website or you can donate over the phone by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW.

 • Well said and well done. The Army hasn't been mobilized since "the leak" and my recollection is that incident united and brought the community together in a remarkably positive way. I see this as a opportunity to show just how wrong those folks are across the world who think that gamers are lazy, and that video-games do nothing but promote negative behavior. I've just scheduled to donate blood to the ARC (American Red Cross) and while I am there, I plan on giving a cash donation. Who else wants to give the folks who have negative views on our community something to consider? Let's see what the lawyers and politicians have to say to that!

 • Born and raised in New Orleans, I am personally helping out the relief. I still have some family members down there and still don't have a clue if they are fine or not. I hope for the best.

 • Wow...this place died fast.....I remember the pirating issue when hundreds of people helped. Now...they just sit in the Zanzibar thread cursing and complaining. Has Halo2 made this website a worse place? *donates blood, eats a cookie*

 • also born and raised in new orleans..it breaks my heart to see my city devestated. theres family down there that we havent heard from. not even sure when we'll be able to. ive been through a handful of hurricanes, having water in the house for like 4 days, having to take an inflatable raft to get around. but this is beyond most of us have ever encountered. its just sad the culture, way of life, and a "mindset" of everydayl living that you;d be hard pressed to find anywhere else is gone. thank you bungie for your support and trying to et the word out. soundunit BUDday BUDdies-clan

 • http://www.wwltv.com/sharedcontent/breakingnews/slideshow/083005_dmnkatrina/1.htmll a few pictures that show the damage that has been caused. its getting rather scary down there in the downtown area. the looting is getting out of hand. reports of police gettting involved(i assume a small part though) my brothers friend who runs a web-hosting company is still at his job. they are locked up and protecting themselves from looters or small groups of people running around armed. why do people have to be like this. But in the end i believe the majority wll help one another and try to rebuild.

 • In my clan's case, one of our own was affected. He's lost his house and everything else. Our clan has already banded together to support our teammate, and we're there for everyone else who's in this time of need.

 • This thing is really bringing out the worst in those people. They left prisoners to die in the storm. The prison was destroyed and the convicts escaped. They have taken children and the wardens family hostage and one family member is now rumored dead. Rise 7th Colum rise!

 • I work at the Navy's Helicopter Airwing here in Norfolk and we just mobilized every available helicopter to deploy on the ships heading down there. If it has blades and is safe to fly it's on the way. I spent the morning helping the squadrons get equipment and supplies onto the ships and wishing I was back on sea duty. Those images of Louisiana and Alabama knocked the wind out of me just like Pensacola's devastation last year..

The American Red Cross is the US branch of this international organization who focuses on delivering aid to those who need it ASAP. Their site is swamped (so responses may be slow) with people who want to help any way that they can. Thank you ALL for taking the time and making the effort to help others. You have truly shown what this community is capable of.

 • Yeah this is one of the advantages of a gaming community; being able to easily spread a message to millions of people. It's too bad that it seems like positive things are illegal on the news, or this would make it for sure. Since I'm only 16 I can't give blood yet, but I'll try to give money or do whatever I can to help. Thanks to everyone giving their own time to help, and our thoughts are with those that are waiting to hear from family and friends. It's time for the Underground Army to resurface on a national level! [Edited on 8/31/2005]

 • In a few hours our community is already donating and probably many more that can't post yet. Still the politicions still only point out the bad points of video games. People who never even play these games judge us and say only bad things can come from them. Now is the time to prove them wrong!

 • Wow. It's really great to see that Bungie is offering to rally for assistance. This is a perfect example of the will of good people - how often would you associate the gaming community with aid in times of a natural disaster? I mean this sincerely - you guys have to be setting a precedent. While I myself live in Jackson, we too felt the impact of Katrina. It wasn't until yesterday that the full emotional effects set into place. Watching footage of those areas hit by the brunt of the storm was horrifying. My grandparents used to live in Biloxi, and not being able to identify anything within the region really hit me hard. In our apartment complex in Jackson, we spoke with a woman who had fled Gulfport, but did not know the whereabouts of her husband. I could only pray that they would be reunited safely, and hope that all others affected along the coast and in New Orleans would be able to pick up the pieces. Restaraunts and grocery stores across the state have lost power, but that hasn't stopped them from giving out food to those who need it. Once again, it's great to see so many people willing to help in such times of loss - never underestimate what you can do. At this point, you could be changing someone's life, at the least! Give blood, make a monetary donation, or even food if there's such a place in your area.

 • It is so horrible to what the hurricane has done to not only New Orleans but the surrounding areas as well. The past week or so I have been watching the news regularly and the amount of damage is unreal. I can't do much myself only being 15, but my family has already donated what money we can to those in need. I really hope for the best as a couple of my friends live near New Orleans. I wish everyone who has been affected good luck.
