A case of depression I can't seem to shake

I don't know...I've been through depression before and eventually have gotten out of it, but I can't shake this off. I've had it for months...My grades are caving in, (don't get me wrong, I study and turn my homework in, I just can't concetrate on the tests thus making bad grades on them) I have family problems, and my friends never take me seriously. Has anybody ever gone through something similar, and gotten out of it? If so, I'd be grateful for any advice. Oh, and I'm not going to see a shrink, so don't suggest that. [Edited on 6/2/2005]

 •
Posted by: LordCrotchpants Your right hand is your best friend in these times. Unless your a lefty, then it's your left hand.
*shakes head and sighs* Oh, well. I don't go through depression a whole lot, but lately I've been a little sadder than normal, 'cause I've had some serious issues with who I've thought my friends were... Anyhow, one of the first thing's I'd suggest is to try and make friends with a really cool girl. If she's good looking, then it's a little more visual icing on the cake. But, it's good to have a girl to talk to because you can usually open up more around them and show more of your sensitive side without really having to be ashamed of it. Also, just trying to take your mind off it helps a little. If you have money, go out and buy yourself something. Go get Season 1 and 2 of Samurai Jack. It's pure animated bliss. But, really, I think it was Vella who had the best suggestion: just get away from it all for a weekend.

 • maybe you should read something to cheer you up? this may seem strange, but when im feeling down, i read Maddox's articles. it always seems to get me back into my normal vindictive self. on a more serious note, i would have to agree with Vella and just take a break from everything for a couple days. maybe just relax and listen to some good music, or go for an early morning walk(less people and cars, more relaxing). the Bungie forums are not the place to be. people ranting about BR starts, lag, and standby are not going to help you. i wish you the best.

 • I've only got one more week of school, so I've gotten into that depressed mode knowing I'll only have one more semester (since I'm graduating early) left with the people in my class. It's pretty lame I know, but I still dread the day when we all take our separate ways.

 •
Posted by: TheMayaMC First how long have you been alive to feel this much depression? I'm not the most social person ever.. I'll talk to people, but if they start, I'm not into the whole breaking the ice thing. I'm a bit self conscious too, that's why I like talking online, people can just focus on what I'm saying and not on who is trying to say something.. Oh and don't tell me that self consciousnes is all in my head.. I think it comes from ALL the times these "females" just make me feel more and more like crap. I'm told that I am very smart, and building things is one way I keep myself happy. And by building my own little world without hellspawned females, I keep on a smile ^_^
Those damn females. You should switch over to men like I did! :)

 • There is some good advice in this thread, some really, incredibly bad advice, even as a joke. I would say the same as someone else did: get some exercise, get out of the house, go out running. Listen to music, no emo or heavy metal. Stuff like ska punk and reggae always cheers me up. A good sleep cycle is very important. Get up early, don't go to bed late. Go somewhere peaceful and just relax. Parties are okay, but don't overdo it and get wasted. You'll feel like -blam!- the next morning. NEVER go to a party unless you are in the right frame of mind, otherwise you'll just sit in a corner and get worse. Don't do drugs. I had depression in the past, will do in the future. These things have always helped me through it, I hope they will help you too.

I enjoy playing the electric guitar. If you have to, you can always talk to Mary J. She's a nice fellow that will bring you up from the lows and take you up high.

Oh, and I'm not going to see a shrink, so don't suggest that.
I know almost exactly what your problem. 6 things: 1) you dont eat right 2) you dont work out 3) you dont sleep on a regular time and/or you cant sleep 4) to much sugar 5) not enough nutrients 6) you stress your self out Look, i know what i am talking about cause i specialize in health and fitness. It has been in my faimly for over 3 (going on 4) generations. My dad owns his own gym, and he has been teaching for over 50 years. (yes he is old, but can out beat prob any dad on this thread) I am following in his foot steps. I use to suffer the same thing, till I found out it was alergies and i stressed myself out to much. Every felt really good, like you were god? want more of it? Do all the stuff i listed, and you will get into a ruetine (sorry for spelling) and enjoy it. You will also feel like god almost all the time. If your overweight, thats your main sourse of your prob to. If your life is hard right now (enviromental wise) then talk to your faimly and tell them, and if they are helping cause probs, then talk to them on how to fix this. If there abusive, then deff. seek a counlor. That is not right. If your being picked on, dont paint a target on you, and be yourself. (I was picked on for 11 years, so i know how it feels.) THE OLD SAYING GOES: garbage in, garbage out. Do that, and I am almost certin it will go away. -Aktins Diet. (ironic name eh? :) )

 • Just try and hang out with some different people. They will make you feel better, I was going through the same thing, fell into a crowd of drinking and more, and the people I hang with now don't make me feel that way anymore. (although you didn't specify your age) Go out and do something different. Do something that will change the way you look at life, volunteer for the homeless, read to children, get out there, a sense of self-satisfation can be found inside or through helping others, you just have to find which works best for you.

Sometimes, I laugh when people die in moveis like in "Matrix Revolutions" I laughed when Trinity died and in the movie "We Were Soldiers" I laughed when a guy got shot in the head.

 • The way I get around is "NOEMO". I think I created the term and it's kind of the opposite of "EMO". If you didn't catch on... NOEMO is NO EMO, or NO EMOTION. it works.... for me.... Oh, and I pronounce it NO-MO
