I stll have some Halo 2 Slurpee cups. Those were awsome....

well, let's look at it this way. The Phantom Menace had alot of merchandizing because guess what? it was the return to Star Wars. it was a big -blam!- deal. Episode II, however, saw very little merchandizing in comparison. But what do we have now? the last Star Wars that will be made? yes, again, we have a big -blam!- deal. personally, i love it when movies do things like the slurpee cups and the pepsi cans that the Phantom Menace did. i see it less as advertising and more as an acknowledgment of film as a much more broad aspect of culture. honestly, who is going to decide to see Ep. III just because of their slurpee cup? it's more than just advertising.
Posted by: MCs Brother Lucas is a money whore. He'll slap SW's logo on anything to make a buck. You think he's doing these prequels to "finish the saga"? No. When he did the Original Trilogy, he was risking everything. His career, his money, etc. He had inspiration. And those 3 movies were great. Nowadays, he figures people will shell out money to see a new Star Wars flick just because it's SW. He isn't risking anything, and he isn't inspired. He just wants money.
You are completely wrong.....Star Wars was supposed to be the "trilogy to end all trilogies". It was originally supposed to be a set of 3 trilogies (meaning 9 films in total). There are only six, so how is taking off 3 movies meaning that all he wants is money?

Yes star wars goes a lil overboard on the merchandise... but I believe it is neccessary to make it have the appeal it does. For every prequel we have been engrossed in the star wars world long before it came out... its a way of attracting the largest possible audience and getting them to buy the products at the same time. EX: Kid buys darth maul MM's Kid buys star wars 7 - 11 drink Kid sees star wars everywhere Kid must see movie Kid still sees star wars everywhere Must see movie again... This is truly knowing a customer - congrats lucas

He said if they didn't like it, they didn't have to see them. But he was making these movies because of the story he had to tell and he was going to tell it his way. I said he was in it for the money when he made the prequels. And as for him being on the Forbes list: You don't just stop making money when you get rich. You want to be richer. Which means you keep doing what made you rich.

It will eventually die down. Try not to be so offended by it. You would do the same thing if you owned a big famous company since Star Wars is so popular.
