Just on the heels of Tycho 41 49's Links Guide I present to you...
PKF's Email Link Guide:
OK we all know there is an Email tag
What 99.9% of you don't know is the Secret uses of the tag.
Tag: [ emal]Youremail@bungie.net[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net
Simple no?
Here are some unknown secrets of the email tag.
Say you want to link your email and you want people to respond to you with a specific subject.
We all know people are dumb and wont always use the subject line that you request, so this
is how you MAKE them use it.
Tag: [ email]Yourname@bungie.net?subject= Your Subject Line Here[ /email]
Result: Yourname@bungie.net?subject= Your Subject Line Here
Try it, it will automatically put the subject line that you specified in Subject= into the emails subject line.
Here are some more secret uses to the email tag (thank me later)
Multiple Recipients:
Tag: [ email]Youremail@bungie.net,HisEmail@Bungie.net[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net,HisEmail@Bungie.net
Just add a comma between emails to make multiple recipents.
Carbon Copy:
Tag:[ email]Youremail@bungie.net?cc=Hisemail@bungie.net[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?cc=Hisemail@bungie.net
Just add ?cc=Email@email.com after the first email.
Blind Carbon Copy:
Tag:[ email]Youremail@bungie.net?cc=Hisemail@bungie.net[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?bcc=Hisemail@bungie.net
Just add ?bcc=Email@email.com after the first email.
Carbon Copy & Blind Carbon Copy:
Tag:[ email]Youremail@bungie.net?cc=Hisemail@bungie.net&bcc=Heremail@bungie.net[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?cc=Hisemail@bungie.net&bcc=Heremail@bungie.net
Just add ?cc=Email@email.com after the first email + &Bcc=Email after the CC email.
Email With Partial Message Started:
Tag: [ email]Youremail@bungie.net?body=Your Message Body Text Goes here[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?body=Your Message Body Text Goes here
Just add ?body=Message after the first email.
Email With Partial Message Started (Multi Line):
Tag: [ email]Youremail@bungie.net?body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?body=Message paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.
Just add ?body=Message after the first email. (Use "%0A" for a new line, use "%0A%0A" for a new line preceded by a blank line)
To attach multiple formats to an email, just use the & to combine the features.
Email + Subject + Carbon Copy + Blind Carbon Copy + Multi Line Message
Tag: [ email]Youremail@bungie.net?Subject=Hello&cc=him@bungie.net&bcc=her@bungie.net&body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?Subject=Hello&cc=him@bungie.net&bcc=her@bungie.net&body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.
Smaller Links:
As with any long link, we strive to make them smaller and easier to use.
By using TinyUrl we can make these complex and long links small and simple.
Ex.
Tag: [ email]Youremail@bungie.net?Subject=Hello&cc=him@bungie.net&bcc=her@bungie.net&body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.[ /email]
Result: Youremail@bungie.net?Subject=Hello&cc=him@bungie.net&bcc=her@bungie.net&body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.
Take the email string from between [emal] - [ /email]
(Youremail@bungie.net?Subject=Hello&cc=him@bungie.net&bcc=her@bungie.net&body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.)
and add mailto: to the beginning:
mailto:Youremail@bungie.net?Subject=Hello&cc=him@bungie.net&bcc=her@bungie.net&body=Paragraph 1.%0A%0aParagraph 2.%0A%0AParagraph 3.
With TinyUrl this becomes:
http://tinyurl.com/d8l4u7
You can now link the "email" string from tinyurl as a Link (url) on bungie and it will act just like the [ email] tag
Ex.
[ur l=http://tinyurl.com/d8l4u7]Youremail@bungie.net[ /url]
Becomes
Youremail@bungie.net
It looks like an email tag but it contains all the features of the elongated email string because of the tinyurl compression.
It's interesting...when was the last time someone linked their email on Bnet? Guess it's there for the rare occasions when people want to do it, but thanks for this. I think part of the problem was that nobody knew how to link properly. Thanks again! [Edited on 04.23.2009 2:55 PM PDT]

This is actually great stuff, I was wondering why you weren't posting a standalone guide =)
Posted by: Tycho 41 49 This is actually great stuff, I was wondering why you weren't posting a standalone guide =)
yeah i took it out of yours because I didn't really want steal the spotlight from your thread with ppl talking about this crap :P Thanks for the inspiration btw!!
-
I actually didn't know that. Thanks.
-
This is cool.

Seeing as people rarely link their emails here, there really hasn't been that much experimentation with the email system. I honestly had no clue that all of these neat little shortcuts and features were available before. I certainly know a lot more of what the email section of the site is capable of now. Very nice post. Your knowledge is valuable :-)
-
I actually didn't know anything about these shortcuts for Bungie.net, as most people never link their e-mail address! I can't believe you figured out all this information. Great job!

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S GOOD DON'T USE EMAIL TAGS. Mailto links are horrible and a bad standard on web pages. Especially since most people use web-based email, which makes those links really inconvenient. That last strategy, the tinyurl one? People will get a little angry if they click a named link expecting to visit a webpage, when their unconfigured email client comes up and bothers them. Seriously. That being said, it's a well-put-together guide either way, PKF, so nice work I guess. :P
-
Cool, but I doubt people would post their e-mail. At least you took some effort, so you get an A.
-
Posted by: Erikster Cool, but I doubt people would post their e-mail.
That could be true actually. As you hate those average hackers of sorts, and other means.
-
I know you wish to re-write the standards of the internets, but we have to make due with what we have. I agree that the Tinyurl thing could be abused, but that's why you should set your TinyUrl Settings to Preview first :) Maybe we can get more embedded options for our email tag here on bungie so we dont have to resort to such shoddy scripting :P
Posted by: CAVX PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S GOOD DON'T USE EMAIL TAGS. Yeah CAVX, I hate the mailto thing as well. Windows should have some way to integrate it with your email provider. Like, open up the browser with yahoo.com, or something. Anyways, this is really awesome PKF! I never knew you could put body text in there, nice.
