I, Robot

Does anyone want to see this sci-fi flick? I already saw "Riddick" this summer and it was pretty cool, but I'm a huge fan of sci-fi reading and I can't wait for Asimov's I,Robot to hit the screens. Anybody know of any good sci-fi novels and/or movies to watch while waitng for Halo 2 this summer?

 •
Posted by: JubJubTheGrunt To Doom Sticks: I know 2x wachowski wasn't the first, but this story is the EXACT same and the robots even look the same!!! (have you seen animatrix?)
that's hollywood, dude. i'm actually surprised that the theaters aren't flooded with more movies of this nature, due to the success of the matrix trilogy. when LOTR came out and met with such great success, rights to darksun, forgotten realms, and dragonlance (all D&D) movies were sold almost immediately. they're going to flog the horse until it's just little bits of fleshy goo.

 • Now that we're comparing things to the Matrix. Halo2 (along with everything else) seems like the Matrix revolutions to me. Last chance to save the human race War with a superior enemy Neo = Master Chief Nobody thought the robot homeworld was possible to get into. Nobody thinks the Covenant homeworld is possible to get into. A third enemy gets involved (Smith/flood) The point is everything can be compared to the matrix, it's not saying much now when you compare something to the matrix. By the way, I liked Minority Report along with most Spielberg films, I think I, Robot will be ok. But what else are you going to do over the summer? Halo2 isn't out yet. I'm going to see it though I admit I am a bit skeptical.

 • Yeah but Asimov's I Robot universe has several books and they were written a while ago. I don't think that it's a direct screen translation of the books (no movies are) but especially because I, Robot the book is a collection of short stories. The matrix (wachowski bros) wasn't the first to come up with the idea that machines take over man in the future just the first to implement 3D rotational shots, slow mo and kungfu wire acts in a sci fi flick.

 • did anyone notice that the story of I,robot is exactly the same as Matrix... Its what started the human-robot wars in the matrix trilogy... [Edited on 6/25/2004 5:36:01 AM]

 • I've been flamed before... The single most annoying/unnerving/****ing weird experience I never want to relive. Maybe I'm just a little too paranoid. *shifts eyes*

 • Why are you so worried about getting flamed? Big deal, make them look like an idiot. Yeah, Spider-Man 2 looks like a good movie.

 • Thanks, Cannon 117. You know, I didn't say it, but if the reviews are really good, I will go see I, Robot. On the instinct side (and this might get me flamed), I'll be operating entirely on gut feeling when I go see Spider-Man 2 opening day, many times. If it sucks (which it won't--I'm not opinionated!), I'll only see it twice. I don't expect it to suck. Did I make that clear? [Edited on 6/24/2004 8:42:55 PM]

 • You have a good point Frogwart. It's kinda like buying a videogame. Do you trust the reviews or do you trust pure instinct? It comes down to what you would rather believe.

 • Well, that's interesting. I got the impression that I, Robot was going to be just a different Matrix or something. You know? We build A.I. A.I. goes bad. A.I. fights humans, massive robot versus human mayhem. Yep, sounds like the Matrix to me.

 • Let me clarify my position before the flames start flying... I like Will Smith. I like some of his movies, and I appreciate his others for what they were--for the most part--summer popcorn blockbusters. What concerns me about I, Robot is a very nasty rumor I heard. Rumor: the studio took Asimov's name and title (it is recognized by millions of science fiction fans, and name recognition fills theater seats) and pasted it on a script by a no name writer about robots running amok in a futuristic society. Add a name director (the guy who directed The Crow), add a name actor (Will I-need-my-own-sci-fi-blockbuster Smith), shake well, and serve in the hottest month of the year. If you go see it and love it, fine. More power to you. I'm waiting for the reviews, because I trust reviews and would rather get a concensus before I take the chance to walk into a theater and have to leave wishing I'd never gone. [Edited on 6/24/2004 8:20:06 PM]

 • Yeah I;m afraid it might be too much like Minority Report (which i didn't like too much) and you gotta be atleast somewhat skeptical about will smith flicks. But i figure they're working with the art of a master how much could they screw it up? and the robots look really cool and the action too!

 • k, obviously you guys have never read any of my posts over the last few months. I've definitely read the halo books, but thanks. Hitchhiker's guide was good but not a fan of all the sequels and stuff; is Interstellar Pig one of them? if not, what's it about? Sounds funny...

 • I'll see it. Just because Will Smith is in it. Most of his movies are good.

 • The Halo books are not meant to give clues to Halo 2's Campaign mode. That is, at least until the fourth book, which will (one can safely assume) cover the events of Halo 2. I, Robot looks like they took Asimov's idea and threw it into a multi-million dollar Will Smith action/comedy set in Spielberg's Minority Report world. But that's just my take on it. [Edited on 6/24/2004 7:29:16 PM]
