SOMEONE HELP ME!!! THIS QUESTION HAS NEVER BEEN ANSWERED!!!

Ok so here is the deal. I bought Halo PC the day it came out. I have played many many many online games and never had any problems getting disconnected from any online game. I have a great ping, and an awesome rig, but for some reason I get disconnected from probably 8 out of 10 Halo MP games??!!! I get the message "This game has closed down" or whatever and I know it hasnt because Im sitting there talking to my friend that is still in the game. I have put Halo on both PCs in my house and get the same thing. Did I just get a bad copy? What? I never get below first or second in any game that I actually get to finish so its pissing me off that my skills never add up to anything and on top of it all its hard to play with my friends when I keep getting d/ced from almost every game. PLEASE CAN ANYONE ON GODS GREEN EARTH EXPLAIN WHY THE HELL THIS HAPPENS!!

  • Unstable servers, or unstable connections to the servers are the main cause for this kind of thing. It sounds to me like, in this case, your connection is the problem.

They are in no way obligated to do this. If this happens to you on multiple servers it's most likeley your ISP or a problem with your network connection. Also check for spyware on you pc. -MoneyMan

  • But still...I can play any other online game just fine. Whether it be other online PC games or Xbox Live and my PS2. I dont have a bad connection b/c every online game I play I always have a better ping than most people, and my friends tell me that on their end Im showing a great ping also. I dont understand why it has to be that my favorite game doesnt work for me online.

  • see Halo is the special needs child of all online pc games. The code sucks plain and simple (I LOVE HALO PC OK??!!). And what the one guy said about bungie servers is absolutly correct. Free servers from Homelan that kick ass?? ALRIGHT!! If yoou have any spyware, or antivirus programs running while playing halo pc, they will effect performancecand may block packets. Also your not running a router are u? (please SAY NO!!!)

Now we are getting somewhere. Yes I do play thru a router. And yes I do have antivirus programs on both computers. I have no choice but to play thru a router if I want to play on the monster rig I own. I could disable the antivirus programs and give that a shot, but I hope its not the router.

  • ok dude get ready fo a talkin. First what kinda router?? Do you have it set up properly for Halo Pc (gamespy in particualr). Also, shut off those damn anti virus programs. With a router already hooked up (probably with a firewall built in) there is no way in hell somebodies goin to hack your comp (unless if they are dtermined then they will get in antivirus or no). Keep askin questions cause i got the answeres hopefully.

  • if you have dsl or cable than go to a bungie server or start a game of your own and lots of noobs who have dial up start up a cable game because of more players or you can wait till halo 2 comes out. [Edited on 4/20/2004 5:07:56 PM]

  • I play through 56k all the time and rarely ever get disconnected. I think that whole antivirus bit is crap, period! I got AV and firewall running in the background and it causes no problems. Maybe antivirus caused problems back in the early days of the technology, but not now. I can't comment on the router part as it will be at least a week before DSL service is up. I think your cable ISP is unstable.

  • The router I'm running (Netgear Model FR114P) had a known issue with multi-computer online gaming. I found out that I needed to upgrade the firmware. You might search if your router has any known problems playing online games.

  • After doing a couple of searches I found this posted in one forum out on the web concerning your router: http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/forums/printthread.php?Cat=&Board=ServerAdmin&main=155476&type=thread He was running a HALO server and it would unexpectedly drop all clients, including his connection even though he was on the same LAN. Hope this help to point you in the right direction.

THe address I submitted earlier had a space in it: http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/forums/printthread.php? Cat=&Board=ServerAdmin&main=155476&type=thread [Edited on 4/21/2004 11:43:50 PM]

  • Hey you also got to think about the technology we have like my computer has always been out of date and i have to get a new modem becauase it was way way way to slow to keep up in the internet world! For example i was trying to process my email and my modem could'nt handle it so it woudl disconect me and atomaticly close. I couldn't even get to a web page. My thoughts to you are you have very fast stuff and a somewhat slow modem to deal with!! OH AND GOOD LUCK DUDE!
