I think S1 may mean SPARTAN 1, it makes sense since they are a group of soldiers sent into a bad situation and they do not report to a fleet. Forget Spartan 1's their just OSDTs, aka Helljumpers [Edited on 10.05.2008 8:09 PM PDT]

About the diorama. What you must realize is that, BELIEVE, is what you are meant to do. The diorama was buildt as a memorial, as an explanation of what happened to Cheif and the other brave marines ets during the last battle on Earth. They are simply what the survivors thought happened to Cheif during the thierd game. Cheif as you know didn't die by the hands of a Brute.

so i'm coming in on page 101 of this thing. so maybe this has already been discussed...maybe not could this have anything to do with the halo 3 diorama that was released before the game came out? it never made a whole lot of sense to me after playing through the campaign as to why it was there. (i must admit, i'm not much into the halo books, so maybe that's where my answer was). all i know is that i really wanted to play in that battle, and was kind of disappointed when i didn't get to. So is it possible, that they've had an very extensive trilogy planned since before the release of halo: combat evolved? I dunno, just trying to push the train of thought a little bit.
