Mod alert button...

One way we could easily make our forum's cleaner is having a mod alert button on every thread. If someone sees that people are spamming or other things that would require a lock, they could click it, and whichever mod was on at the time would receive a notice that would tell him who sent it and have a link to the thread. The reason for having the person's name is so that the mod could tell if someone was just doing it to be stupid or so the mod could tell the person that it really wasn't that important. Maybe even the person giving the alert could send a little message with it. Is this possible? [Edited on 6/12/2004 11:58:12 AM]

 • That would end up spamming the Mod's inbox, and trolls would end up alerting every thread. And if you only gave the mod alert privledge to a select, trusted, group, you'd leave out the rest of the entire forum (not nice).

 • Yes, they had it at an old forum I used to go to. It was called a "report" button. However, I don't think there's a need for that. The mods have their own spies...

 • A few people PM the mods already with crappy threads. But a report button wouldn't be a bad idea, if it was in a separate area to PMs. Maybe there should be an auto-lock, so after x reports the thread is automagically locked?
True, though the reason I pointed out that there should be a name of the person who sent the report was so that the trolls that alerted every thread would end up getting instant ninja annihilation. There could be like 1 warning and next a temp ban if people did it, or even a temp ban automatically. Also, as you said, giving the privelage to certain people would be sorta unfair, but as I said in another thread we could have sorta junior mods; people that could be trusted, they would have the mod alert button thingy, so they could tell mods about people who were violating rules. I'm still not quite sure my idea is a bad one but if it is I hope the junior mods isn't. [Edited on 6/12/2004 12:09:50 PM]

 • If they could be trusted to be junior mods then they may as well be full mods.

 • Well the thing is not all people have the time or want to be full mods. Even if Bungie wanted me to be a mod I would decline. I'm too busy with school (besides being to young probaly, not saying that i am too immature) and don't really want to take the time. With junior mods the trusted people could just do their part when they are on, but wouldn't get the right or responsibility to be full mods whcih Shishka, Stosh, and Yoozel work hard for.

 • If they DID have one, people like me would tempted to annoy the s hit out of the mods

 • I'm sure you have already annoyed the sh_t out of the mods, but like I sayed the mods would know who sent the alert which would result in instant ninja annihilation for you, and anyone else with similar ideas. One thing I like about it is it would be a great way to get all the jackasses to get themeselves banned. [Edited on 6/12/2004 1:47:43 PM]

 • Abusing the button could result in instant bannination of your IP. That's one way you could solve the problem of trolls.

 • Junior mods? Sounds kind of stupid to me. I mean don't we have a bunch of people trying to be mods and alerting the real ones now any ways?

 • I'm pretty sure I had a report button on my old forums. I'm not quite sure how it worked. But I think the mods could just look at the reports in a Mod CP. So I'm all for a report button. (mod alert button.. whatever you want to call it)

 • I still think the junior mods is a good idea, cause really, do we all got the time to be forum mods? The junior mods would just be people who really don't have nearly as much power but still could go around and scare people. If we got a bunch of em then our forums would be pretty clean.

 • PMing the moderators is just as useful as junior mods would be, although maybe a central inbox would help (that way the moderators could be informed about alerts received, and you wouldn't have to find out who was on). Just something that everyone can use. [Edited on 6/19/2004 11:04:42 AM]

 • I was thinking about the same thing the other night at work. Some simple things could be done to counter act this spamming the mods thing if there was a warning button. If a person continues to spam the mod with that feature just go ahead and ban them. I also had a ton of other ideas for letting some of the new people know who really knows thier halo/bungie stuff. Its a counter...now I know this has been brought up before...but if you put the number of posts each person has it seems to put a lil bit of weight on what they say. You could also put up a a red flag counter for how much they've been dicks on these forums. The little things they do eventually add to these forums make them better to come to.

 • If you're talking about a post counter, we had one. But it was removed because people were posting as they thought they'd get something for a high post count.

 •
Posted by: Live killa ...don't we have a bunch of people trying to be mods and alerting the real ones now any ways?
Is it a bad thing to alert a mod when it's obvious that there are no mods online cleaning up the problems? It can get out of control, true, but that's why the mods themselves can investigate the problem and then either take care of it or warn the person who messages them not to bug them when there's no real problem.
