I've been playing online with a strict NAT for over 5 years now. I've finally decided to end my torment, but I'm not exactly the MILF hunter of motherboards, so to speak. I know next to nothing.
First things first, finding my IP, right? ipconfig/all, blah blah, default gateway into browser, no? No. Doesn't work. Renew IP, then, my router's FAQ suggests. K. ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew. Windows IP Configuration - Error yadda yadda the system cannot find the file specified. Ergo, it doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong?
Posted by: HD PVR
Posted by: TheGreenAlloy Basically, ain't nobody can mess around in this unless they're connected here, either wirelessly or wired? Sound about right considering many routers have default IPs, but my father can alter the settings of our routers down in Protugal from here. What's up with that?
That is correct. Everything on your network has an internal IP address that is assigned by your router. Basically, the device talks to the router and then the router talks to the modem in order to access the Internet. It's obviously a little more complicated than that, though. Many routers have an option to enable remote access, but it's not something I'd recommend unless you have a very strong password.
So this router could have remote access enabled?
