Dark Souls 2: PvP Pet Peeves.

So I've been playing a crap-ton on Dark Souls 2 and I've noticed a lot of people doing crap that irritates me. First and formost: using an estus flask during a duel. That's not cool. If you're about to be defeated I think it's only fair that you accept it. Another thing that bugs me (although it may be trivial) is when other players do not bow or anything before a duel. Am I the only one that expects this from players? What things irriate you when it comes to PvP? EDIT: I see a lot of people think I'm speaking about healing an invasion, but I'm talking about healing during a duel in the arena places. If you've been invaded and you haven't gotten to the closest bonfire, you definitely have the right to heal. But I think healing in the dueling arenas is weak.

I was in the Dragon Remnants, and what I hate more than anything are the asshats that sit there waiting for the exact moment you've completely spawned in so they can try to go for a backstab or an insta-kill. I remember one gentleman yesterday was sitting there throwing lightning spears at me as I was spawning in. Luckily I got away as soon as I spawned in so none of them hit me, and then I backstabbed him and used Chaos Storm while he was down to kill him the second he got up. Poor soul didn't know the hell that he had infuriated by trying that sort of cheap tactic. I also love to bow when I spawn in, and usually most people reciprocate it, but one guy wasn't having that. The second I got in and went for a bow, he started throwing quick poison cloud hexes at me and then started hitting me with a bleed sword until I was dead. Didn't even get much of a chance to even start fighting.

  • Shield Bash. It needs to be nerfed into oblivion or taken out all together. I understand the concept is to get past a person using a great shields defenses, but it completely negates the need for shields when a person can easily bash you every time your shield is up and your either dead or barely alive.

    • I absolutely can not stand when people take advantage of you doing an honorable bow in order to seize an attack opportunity. Especially if they end up spamming you with magic, hex, and faith BS. Look I respect magic users and their full reasons for choosing the style of play that you are the most comfortable with, but the moment someone grows even the slightest bit cocky because of their class advantage, I'm immediately considering you a coward. Alright, I think I'm done venting now..

    • Only thing that irritates me is the kiddies who think it's funny to summon two Phantoms on their side and then call in dark spirits to outnumber three-to-one. Other than that, I expect nothing from anyone, because the only objective of PvP is to win. Honor doesn't have to play into it, even if it's nice when it does.

          • Spell spamming. I don't care if you use a lot of spells when I fight you, but at least try to land one hit via hand weapon. Then just staying far away from me and long range spamming me.

I'm going to make a big comprehensive list about every bolony ass mechanic I've come across. I still like the pvp, but the shit mechanics really, really, really bog shit down. In fact, I've just resorted to punching shit. There's no point to strength weapons. And I don't like being a cheap feg. I can stunlock people, but the caestus has the range of a microbe so eventually I punch them too far from me and they can get away. So, here's what's to start on the list. Lol Poise If you could modify the game to have unlimited poise, it wouldn't do anything. It's useless, does nothing, has no effect, nada. Or so you think. Lol Poise has a random factor. At any moment, the game will decide that this is the original souls, and the guy wearing heavy armour will suddenly take up to 5 hits without flinching. What does this mean for you? In the time it takes me to punch somebody five times, and not have them flinch, they've swung their weapon. And that automatically welcomes you to your very own special version of LOL POISE that does nothing, and you get stunlocked to death. Stunlocking Get a weapon with combos. You automatically win pvp. Spin 2 win. Wombo combos. Combo breaker. You are now the champion of tetris. Magic, Pyromancy, Miracles and Hexes You like playing the game on auto mode? Want to take a shit on the toilet but don't want to quit the game or wish for a pause button? Use any of these and the game will run itself for you. Extra points if you're Australian, French, Mexican, Japanese, and South American because then you don't even need to touch the controller. Magic buffs Magic buffs aren't so bad. That's if you can avoid them. But what makes this move extra douchey, is when you use various mechanics up above to compliment it. Spam magic and watch your target roll, then mash dem buttons to get a free kill. Scaling See that 50 STR weapon you're carrying? How about that 40 DEX one? What about the 40/40 STR DEX one? Useless. Physical damage is so last year. Slap on some elemental damage and you'll outpace even the burliest dude who can carry two anvil hammers at once. Shield Breaker Not the most overpowered move of everything in here. It's what comes after that is. This is the law of shield breaker. Spam your weapon at them over and over, mash buttons like crazy and somehow pull the breaker off flawlessly every time, as a third arm comes from your chest in the middle of your swings, and hits your target. This next law is ABSOLUTE. If you do not roll a shield breaker, no matter how far away you manage to walk, even at the distance of the first souls's demon spear, you will get hit by it. And you will sit there, for the entire duration it takes for your enemy to walk over to you. Combine this with a dagger, a buffed weapon, or anything in general, and you win. Free hitsies This law is an ABSOLUTE as well. Simple, you swing your weapon first, but they had just started their swing. What happens? You get hit too. And then, from this point on, it's a roll of the dice on LOL POISE's part to see who wins. Punishment Backstabs Ever keep trying to hit a rolling enemy? Pretty hard right? Not really. It's just that every single time you try to hit someone who is rolling away from you, YOU TRY TO DO THE BACKSTAB INITIATION LIKE A -blam!-ING DUMBASS. And how are you rewarded? By a short little pause of the game punishing you for "MISSING" your backstab. Refer to up above in the list for what comes next. Long weapons If it's long, you win the game. This is the only game where it pays to have a penis longer than two of your body lengths. Poison Simple. If your meter fills up, you may as well just sit back, and enjoy the rest of your life for the remaining 5 seconds you have. Poison weapons are for the most part, made of ass and shit, but if you poison somebody, that's it. Lag Having a bad time? Pull some wires out of your router and make beeping computer noises and you'll win any fight you want. Registry System The one true roll of the dice mechanic. Drink Estus Drink Estus. And finally, we come to the golden, final rule. Murphy's Law, Dark Souls style That's right. If there are any useable tactics players use to defeat you, such as shield bashing, or magic buffs, magic, long weapons, stunlocking, and poison, they will automatically fail you. As for in-game mechanics that players have little control over, these will always act against you, but for the favor of your opponent. I will place these before you in a simple mathematic equation. Shield bash done by you = regular attack that leads to you getting stunlocked, your enemy has a 10000000000000000000000. recovery time and you can never initiate the animation, and so on. Drinking estus = You don't drink estus. You inspect the bottle. Look at the glow of the sun through it. Inspect the date stickers on it. Check the authenticity labels on it. Delicatley remove the cap like you're opening a bottle of pop you threw down the stairs. Smell the smell of the estus. Savor the little quiet moments. Let one single drop onto your tongue to make sure it isn't poisoned or gone bad. Left the bottle up, and hold it there, admiring it in the sun. Bring the bottle to your lips, and lick the glass in anticipation. You take a deep breath, and drink the estus. You are now dead because of all of the other game mechanics. Lots of poise for youreslf = you have no poise. Attempted stun locking = LOLPOSIE activates for your opponent, you become stunlocked, end of story. Magic of any kind = You're a god damn glass pea shooter. A sneeze in your general direction will kill you. Every enemy has a shield with 100% resistance. Magic buffs = your opponent doesn't want any of that shit and kills you on sight. Long weapons = Lol niggs you've got a hitbox the size of an ant on the end of your weapon. Poison = You were hitting me with poison? Attempting to use free hitsies in your favor = The registry system says hello. Nope, you didn't swing your weapon. In fact, you didn't even have it equipped. Using a STR weapon = Lol you swing like a fat 2 year old, no damage, slow and no reach. Using a DEX weapon = lol use a heavy weapon, you can't kill me with little pokes at the speed of light. Keeping your shield up = Shield Breakers non stop And so, gentlemen, this is the fundamental mathematical equation for Dark Souls pvp. But what does all this add up to you ask? What could possibly be the answer? Here it is. YOU DIED.

Well people do not share the same "honor code" the souls community always argues over, so as much as it annoys me, I can't fault them for it. The only things that are fair or unfair are what you and the other person agree upon. Only things that truly annoy me to a point that I find fault in it is ghost/lag range. Surely the only thing that 18 ft. long greatswords need is an extra 5 feet?

                • I don't know if it was super lag or hax, but in Belfry Sol a guy I invaded was just floating all around the area in a perpetual ladder climbing animation while simultaneously shooting me with a crossbow. Also in the Cardinal tower I was invaded but I never even saw my attacker before I died since I kept getting hit by a completely invisible enemy whom I can't attack, lock onto or even block. Not to mention all the other occasions where I get lag hit, or lag stabbed by people like 15 feet away.

                • My pet peeves would be gankers when it comes to set up duels like laying down an invasion sign & being summoned only to meet 3 douchebags ready to overwhelm you with OP magic. Lately i said screw it ill adapt & have added pryomancy to my melee build. & boy have i been having a great time destroying grandma robe wearing mages with my forbidden sun & flame swathes. & i think flasks are fair game because the animation feels like a year in battle so if you allow your enemy to actually finish the whole animation then id say its your fault & his earn, im always making sure im right in my enemies face so they never have a chance to recover. & bowing i always do but only in set up duels like arenas or set down invasion signs. If im in a place like the belltowers or rat turfs then nope, its an all out brawl. No time for honor. Spawn in & be ready to face my blade.

Well I haven't gotten to NG+ yet, so I've only experienced PVP in Belfry Luna, where I was ganked a lot. The battles were all going well and I felt I had a good chance, just for a 2nd guy to come in and tip the balance dramatically in their favor.

                  • I think that if somebody invades me, I should be able to heal, I'm just trying to get through the game and I will do anything it takes to kill an invader. Also when I invade people, I expect them to heal when they get the chance, I don't mind it. When it's a summoned duel, I do not heal and I will get pissed if my opponent heals. If he does heal though, then it's fair game, I will heal as well.

Using estus flasks in a summoned duel, like red soapstone sign or dragon eye. You're bad and you should feel bad. If it's an invasion, anything goes. I had to stop doing PVP for a while. I was getting way too angry at the amount of bullshit phantom hits that were getting me.

                      • I disagree about using estus in the arena. While I can see why it'd be irritating to have a near-victory lost due to someone healing, but you have to realize that successfully healing requires strategic planning or the failure of an opponent to keep up an appropriate amount of pressure. So far the only thing that REALLY irritates me is Wrath of the Gods. Can deal over 2,000 damage, has a high cast speed, has a very sudden burst (making it near impossible to dodge through), has no obvious tell, and can hit players through solid brick walls! What the hell!? Now, I know that this is more of a problem with the devs making Wrath of the Gods so obviously broken, than it does with players using it, but something about seeing players using something so obviously broken makes me irrationally angry at them, lol.

                      • As of late I find myself growing more and more irritated at the shield breaker move. Sees the move coming, doesn't roll out of the way but backs off far enough that not even the demon spear could reach me, gets hit anyway. Invader runs over, kills me with oneshot build. I wander over, do shield bash, host is stunned for 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000. of a second and rolls away to safety every time. And poise is still LOL WUT. I come over to guy, hit him before he starts his swing up, he takes visible damage but doesn't flinch, while I get hit by his sword as well and get stunlocked. We hit each other at the same damn time, and I get double the hits in because fists are fast, but me, the one with 99 poise get interupted and stunlocked when I get hit by a naked guy with a magic buffed greatsword? EXCUSE ME?
